Arsenal identify potential £33m replacement for Gabriel Martinelli, Liverpool and Spurs also interested

At A Glance:

  • Gabriel Martinelli’s future at Arsenal is uncertain.
  • A number of wingers, as a result, are being linked to the Gunners.
  • A £33 million Premier League star is reportedly admired by Mikel Arteta and Co.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are set to have a very important summer transfer window and among those who could be on the chopping block is Gabriel Martinelli – and a report has now stated that the Gunners are interested in a Premier League-proven £33 million replacement.

Irrespective of whether the Londoners, who currently sit at the top of the Premier League, win silverware between now and the campaign’s end, further incomings are expected.

Arteta is also likely to put pen to paper on a new deal but, in terms of new faces, they will be funded by a number of outgoings.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Arsenal would need to sell at least one first-team member after a lavish summer last time out – and Martinelli, alongside Leandro Trossard and Hale End graduates Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri, was named among those.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs eye move for £33m Premier League star

Upgrading their options at left wing is an evident priority of Arsenal’s. They currently have Martinelli, 24, and Trossard, 31, at their disposal – but neither have proved to be a game-changer in the way hoped by Arteta and his entourage.

One of the aforementioned duo will likely leave the Emirates this summer and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Yankuba Minteh is reportedly of interest.

That’s been reported by the Daily Mail, who have also named Liverpool and Arsenal’s biggest rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, as those who are keeping an eye on the 21-year-old The Gambia international.

In the Daily Mail’s report, it said: “Yankuba Minteh has had an inconsistent season but what he shows in flashes has at times been devastating for the opposition. Still only 21, he is super-quick but needs to improve his goal output.”

“[He] played under Arne Slot at Feyenoord and could come into the reckoning for Liverpool if Slot keeps his job. Arsenal and Tottenham are also among his admirers.”

Now, there is a chance that Martinelli stays in north London. His future at the club remains uncertain but reports have suggested that he could extend his stay if he agrees to playing a bit-part role under Arteta.

Would Yankuba Minteh be an upgrade to Arsenal’s current left winger options?

Minteh, who signed for Brighton from Newcastle United for £33 million in 2024, has plenty of years in the tank as a 21-year-old and is far from the finished article. But would he be an upgrade on the likes of Trossard and Martinelli?

The main thing to note is that he primarily a right winger – but he has also operated off the left flank this season, which has seen him score just two goals in the Premier League. He’s also chalked up four assists.

That said, he could also provide competition/cover on the right for Bukayo Saka, who has not performed to his expected levels in 2025/26 but would that stunt the growth of Max Dowman potentially.

Arsenal need wingers who of a world-class level given they are settled in defence but have a few gaps to bridge in the final third. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia would be the perfect addition, though the Georgian would be way too expensive and Paris Saint-Germain are not looking to sell.
