Arsenal’s ownership have reportedly made fresh direct contact with Atlético Madrid as the club continue to pursue Julián Álvarez.
Luca Bendoni and Hand of Arsenal report that discussions have taken place between senior figures at both clubs.
However, there remains a significant gap between their respective valuations of the Argentina international. No agreement has been reached and Arsenal have yet to meet Atlético’s demands.
The renewed communication represents another sign of Arsenal’s determination to explore a deal for Mikel Arteta’s leading attacking target.
Arsenal must find compromise with Atlético
Arsenal are reportedly reluctant to move beyond a valuation of around £90million. Atlético are seeking more than £100m and remain in a strong negotiating position because Álvarez is contracted until 2030.
GOAL previously reported that bridging the price difference would be Arsenal’s main challenge, with Andrea Berta leading discussions against his former club.
ReadArsenal recently covered how Arsenal are trying to complete an ambitious Álvarez move before pre-season.
The latest update suggests communication has now moved to ownership level, although direct contact does not guarantee that an acceptable financial structure will follow.
Álvarez would provide Arteta with a flexible forward capable of playing centrally, from the left or behind another striker. His Premier League experience would also reduce the adaptation risk attached to such a major investment.
Arsenal must still decide how far they are prepared to stretch for the 26-year-old.
A willingness to negotiate is encouraging. Atlético’s valuation remains the decisive obstacle, and Arsenal will need either a compromise on the fee or a creative payment structure before the move can advance.
