Arsenal are closely monitoring Anthony Gordon’s situation ahead of a potential move for the Newcastle winger in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Gunners are eager to bolster the left-hand side of their attack, with both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard flattering to deceive this term. The former has struggled to produce consistent performances and may be sold in the summer, while the latter is entering the final stages of his career and is showing signs of decline.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been identified as a target for Arsenal, although a deal for the Georgian would be complicated by Paris Saint-Germain’s reluctance to sanction his departure. Gordon has therefore been earmarked as a potential alternative, and the Gunners are already drawing up plans to make a move for the England international.

Arsenal have carried out ‘detailed work’ on Anthony Gordon transfer
According to transfer guru Graeme Bailey of TEAMtalk, Arsenal have ‘carried out detailed work’ on Gordon’s transfer situation. The Gunners are closely monitoring the 25-year-old’s situation at St. James’ Park, while they’re also interested in pursuing Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento.
While Newcastle insist that they won’t sanction a fire sale this summer, several clubs are intent on landing several of their key players, and the Magpies may be forced to sell if they don’t qualify for the Champions League for next season.
Gordon is viewed as a perfect fit for the left-hand side of Arsenal’s attack, with his blistering pace and finishing ability cited as reasons for Mikel Arteta’s admiration for him. While Liverpool are also interested in the wide forward, the opportunity to work under Arteta is said to appeal to Gordon.
What exactly ‘carrying out detailed work’ entails isn’t clear in TEAMtalks’s report, although it’s likely that the Gunners have scrutinised the player’s data and video, while they may also have initiated contact with his representatives, as well as Newcastle.
Preparing this groundwork for prospective transfers well in advance has been successful for Arsenal in the past, and thus, they’re right to already be setting their sights on potential targets.
It’s understood that Yan Diomande is another left-wing option for the Gunners, while Nico Williams and Bradley Barcola remain contenders.
Should Arsenal sign Anthony Gordon?
If a deal for Kvaratskhelia is on the cards, Arsenal should do everything they can to land the PSG star. He should certainly be ahead of Gordon on Andrea Berta’s wishlist.
That said, Gordon is a viable alternative who is likely a better option than many Arsenal supporters seem to think. The Newcastle talisman boasts impressive numbers across the board, not just on the surface level, but also in his underlying metrics.

He has all the tools to thrive in a better team, and it’s certainly very possible that his output could explode surrounded by better players.
If Arsenal can reach a reasonable agreement with Newcastle, perhaps striking a deal for a fee in the region of £60 million, then they could certainly do a lot worse. However, if the north-east side demand in excess of £70 million, then the Gunners should take stock and reconsider their options.
