Current Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will soon be entering the final year of his deal in N5 and reports have stated that the club’s higher-ups are keen to extend his stay with ‘a positive ‘early optimism’ over a positive outcome.

After replacing Unai Emery in December 2019, there has been a transformation of fortunes under the Spanish manager’s tenureship.

He took over a club who were, in the grand scheme on their history, struggling to compete with England’s biggest and best clubs. Now, they are always there or thereabouts in terms of a title pursuit.

Arteta, 44, is yet to finally land himself a Premier League – with just one major trophy to show for his six-to-seven years of progress – but he has been a driving force behind their renaissance.

Arsenal set to recommence Arteta extension talks in summer

At the time of writing, the midfielder-turned-tactician’s deal as Gunners boss expires in the summer of 2027 but according to a report, there is a growing chance that he will extend his stay in the Emirates Stadium hotseat.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel wrote: “Process to renew Mikel Arteta’s contract at Arsenal underway and to recommence in the summer. Early optimism over positive outcome.”

In his report, Mokbel explained that initial discussions over Arteta remaining in north London have taken place. Talks, though, will recommence in the summer after an important campaign concludes.

All parties have agreed to focus their attention on their on-the-pitch proceedings and the BBC Sport report insists that a positive resolution is being eyed by the club’s decision makers.

Mikel Arteta is also keen to commit his future to the club who he played for between 2011 and 2016.

That said, he is understood that be wanting ‘assurances’ that those above him are willing to continue providing a level of financial backing – of which has led them to becoming competitive on all fronts.

Only Pep Guardiola of Manchester City and Diego Simeone currently earn more as managers in the world of football, it has been reported, but a new deal for Arteta could seem him eclipse either in terms of his take-home.

The understanding, according to Mokbel, is that son of Stan Kroenke, Josh, and CEO Richard Garlick and driving a resolution due to the fact they were both heavily involved in Arteta putting pen to paper on fresh terms in 2024.

Does Arteta deserve a new deal at Arsenal?

Well, this season is vital to really understand whether Mikel Arteta is befitting of the trust Arsenal’s hierarchy have put in him over the years.

There, of course, have been massive improvements in the club – both on and off the pitch – since he arrived seven years ago… but a lack of trophies is something that frustrates some of the fanbase.

It seems that extending his stay at the club is topping the priority list as we near closer to the summer months – and if he is able to win the Premier League and the Champions League by then, a new deal would be fitting.

Until then, some may remain on the fence whether Arsenal have reached their limit under the 44-year-old and a more experienced manager is needed for the team to hit new heights. Time will tell, of course.
