Chelsea interest in Danny Welbeck has emerged after David Ornstein revealed that the Blues are exploring a summer move for the former Arsenal striker.

The England international joined Arsenal from Manchester United in 2014. He went on to score 32 goals across 126 appearances during six seasons in north London.

Welbeck has 12 months remaining on his Brighton contract after activating an extension until June 2027. His playing quality, leadership and extensive Premier League experience appeal to Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso.
The 35-year-old produced the strongest league return of his career last season. He scored 13 Premier League goals from 37 appearances and featured in all but one of Brighton’s matches.
Welbeck has now registered 51 goals in 201 appearances for the Seagulls since arriving from Watford in 2020. His reliability and ability to lead the press would provide Alonso with an experienced alternative across Chelsea’s forward line.
A move to Stamford Bridge would add another major rival to Welbeck’s list of former clubs. Nevertheless, Chelsea interest in Danny Welbeck remains exploratory, with Brighton yet to receive a formal bid.
