Arsenal’s Bruno Guimaraes transfer pursuit has received fresh encouragement after Eddie Howe admitted he is not involved in the key conversations surrounding the Newcastle United captain’s future.
The Gunners are expected to intensify their efforts to sign the Brazilian midfielder.
Howe has spoken privately with Guimaraes before, during and after the World Cup. However, the Newcastle manager could not guarantee that his captain would remain at St James’ Park.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen with Bruno’s future,” Howe said. “They are conversations that I’m not part of.”
The Newcastle boss still made his preferred outcome clear. He described Guimaraes as an outstanding player and person before confirming that everyone at the club wants him to stay.

Arsenal want a new number eight who can immediately perform in Mikel Arteta’s midfield. Guimaraes offers Premier League experience, defensive intensity and the ability to progress possession under pressure.
Newcastle’s position has become more difficult after losing Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon this summer. Howe admitted those departures had made the transfer window challenging, increasing his desire to retain Guimaraes.
However, the final decision will sit with Newcastle’s hierarchy rather than Howe alone.

Howe’s admission nevertheless leaves Arsenal with an opening. Andrea Berta must now decide whether to meet Newcastle’s valuation or risk losing Arteta’s leading midfield target.
