Eddie Howe has admitted he does not know whether Bruno Guimaraes will remain at Newcastle United this summer. The transfer remains possible, despite Howe holding positive conversations with his captain.
Arsenal are reportedly preparing an offer worth around £70million as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his midfield. Newcastle are expected to reject that figure and remain determined to retain the Brazil international.
Speaking after Newcastle’s 1-1 friendly draw with Gateshead, Howe revealed he had held “really good conversations” with Guimaraes before, during and after the World Cup.
However, the Newcastle manager admitted that he is not involved in every discussion surrounding the midfielder’s future. Howe also described Guimaraes as an important captain who remains highly valued throughout the club.

Guimaraes has not yet returned for Newcastle’s pre-season preparations after representing Brazil at the World Cup. He is expected to rejoin Howe’s squad on 31 July unless his transfer situation changes beforehand.
Arsenal’s current proposal is unlikely to meet Newcastle’s valuation. ReadArsenal previously reported that the Gunners may need to submit a direct bid worth at least £80million before Newcastle consider approving a sale.
Howe’s comments offer Arsenal some encouragement because he could not provide a firm guarantee over the midfielder’s future. Newcastle’s public stance remains clear, but the final outcome may depend on Guimaraes and whether Arsenal meet their demands.
