At a Glance:
- Arsenal have made a move to sign Sandro Tonali.
- Manchester City also targeting Tonali.
- Riccardo Calafiori is a huge admirer of Tonali.
Sandro Tonali has been linked with a move to Arsenal for a while despite the midfielder being contracted to Newcastle United until 2029.
However, it seems like Mikel Arteta’s side have more pressing matters to address in the summer, namely ensuring Morgan Rogers signs for Arsenal.
Similarly, Real Madrid’s interest in Riccardo Calafiori would be a concern for the Gunners, who would like to keep him.
Tonali has been linked with Arsenal since March and Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on their interest in the Italian.
Arsenal in contact with people close to Sandro Tonali
While Arsenal’s links to Tonali have been played down, Romano has revealed they continue to admire the former AC Milan dynamo and have been in contact with people close to him.
“Arsenal also like Tonali. Arsenal have also been in contact with people close to Tonali. There is also Arsenal’s interest in Sandro Tonali.”
Manchester City continue to love Tonali as well, according to Fabrizio Romano but view him as a backup plan to Nottingham Forest and England’s rising star Elliot Anderson.
“But for Manchester City, [he] could become a priority if and only if they can’t get Elliot Anderson.”
Riccardo Calafiori is a big fan of Sandro Tonali
Fabrizio Romano revealed Arsenal are eyeing a midfielder in the summer as one of their priority additions.
Whether Mikel Arteta’s answer to strengthening his Premier League-winning squad is to sign a number eight or a ten like Tonali and Rogers respectively remains to be seen.
However, it is clear to see that the Gunners will not rest on their laurels in the summer. After all, Arsenal have the unique opportunity to build a dynasty in England as well as in Europe off the back of their title win.
Considering Real Madrid have already contacted Calafiori’s camp, he may be unable to play alongside Tonali if his countryman says yes to a move to the Emirates Stadium.
However, the defender rates the 26-year-old highly, telling Tuttomercatoweb in June: “What is he giving us that is different compared to the European Championship? He is an animal, he combines quantity with quality.
“You can see that the Premier League helps a lot guys like him, like me and like other guys.”
