Andrea Berta’s fire sale: Eight Arsenal players put on transfer list

Share

At a Glance:

  • Arsenal want to make a handful of marquee additions this summer.
  • To do this, Andrea Berta has put several players on the transfer list.
  • Here are all eight stars the Italian is reportedly looking to sell.

Arsenal are already preparing for next season, with Andrea Berta reportedly placing eight of Mikel Arteta’s players up for sale.

The Italian sporting director is planning something of a squad overhaul this term, as he looks to freshen up Arteta’s title-winning squad and ensure things don’t go stale at the Emirates. Space needs to be created and funds need to be raised for new signings, with the North London club eager to retain their status as champions next season.

Bradley Barcola is being heavily linked with Arsenal, while the likes of Junior Kroupi, Morgan Rogers and Julian Alvarez are also said to be on Berta’s radar. For these potential marquee signings to arrive in N5, at least five or six players will have to make way.

According to BBC Sport, Berta has placed eight Arsenal players on the transfer list. If reasonable offers come in for each of them, the sporting director will sanction their departures.

It’s well documented that the Gunners want to sign a left winger this summer, and thus, the first two players on the chopping block are Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard. Both have a year left on their respective contracts, and the former is attracting interest from Bayern Munich, while the latter has Premier League clubs circulating.

Jeremy Monga is close to signing for Arsenal, meaning at least one of Martinelli or Trossard will be sold. If a more experienced left forward arrives, then the other will almost certainly go too.

Elsewhere, Gabriel Jesus is expected to leave N5. Like Martinelli and Trossard, the Brazilian’s deal also expires next summer, meaning now is the right time to cash in. Italian and Brazilian clubs are said to be monitoring Jesus.

Meanwhile, Ben White will be allowed to leave if a suitable proposal is received. The Englishman has suffered from injury issues in the last two years, and is now entering the latter stages of his career.

Como want to sign Ethan Nwaneri, and the Hale End graduate is another on the transfer list after a failed loan at Marseille last season. Selling the teenager would see Arsenal register pure profit, making it an attractive move for Berta.

The Gunners are prepared to listen to offers for Christian Norgaard, who hardly featured last season for Arteta’s team, while outcasts Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson will both need to find new homes this summer.

One more major sale could be made by Andrea Berta

Alongside these eight prospective exits, a more surprising sale could also be made. It’s easy to flog unwanted players, but good selling clubs often make slightly uncomfortable sales which allows beneficial reinvestment in the squad.

Riccardo Calafiori is wanted by Real Madrid, and he’s certainly a candidate. The Italian is a mercurial talent, but injury issues mean he cannot be relied upon, and Arsenal may sense an opportunity to cash in on him this summer.

Martin Odegaard is another who has been mooted as a potentially saleable asset. The Norwegian has had fitness problems over the last two years, and has just two years remaining on his contract.

One of Viktor Gyokeres or Kai Havertz could make way for a new striker signing. Gyokeres is unlikely to go, but he didn’t overly impress this season in North London, while Havertz, like Calafiori and Odegaard, could be sold because of his recent injury record.

matchday.
