Arsenal’s Premier League Title Defence: The Fixtures Fans Won’t Want to Miss

Arsenal job cuts

Arsenal have little room for error in their Premier League title defence. Seven matches into the 2026/27 season, Mikel Arteta’s side sit second, three points behind Manchester City. Six victories have kept the champions close, but September’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton exposed their vulnerability.

A Strong Start With Little Margin for Error

Arsenal bounced back from that disappointment with wins against Leeds United and Nottingham Forest. Noni Madueke’s late winner for Arsenal at Nottingham Forest earned them three more points without them putting in an especially good offensive performance. Defending is important but leaves you vulnerable to mistakes.

The upcoming schedule begins with Everton’s visit on 24 October, followed by a League Cup trip to Fleetwood Town on 27 October. As the title race intensifies, interest in Premier League matches today on TV naturally grows, with every result potentially changing the standings. Several subsequent fixtures could prove particularly important for Arsenal’s season.

Liverpool, Newcastle and the November Run

Arsenal face a sequence that could significantly alter their position before December. Three encounters deserve particular attention:

  • 1 November – Liverpool away: Anfield presents a demanding examination of Arsenal’s composure and defensive organisation.
  • 21 November – Newcastle away: Physical pressure and transitions could test Arsenal’s ability to control possession.
  • 29 November – Manchester City at home: A direct meeting with the current leaders offers an opportunity to change the title race.

These games will need different tactics. Liverpool should be able to make the most of turnovers, but Newcastle’s physicality will be tough for the midfielders to handle. City have the added complication of restricting possession while still allowing for attack.

Manchester City: The Match With the Greatest Stakes

The team has started the campaign with seven straight wins in the league. With a three-point cushion at hand, the match at the Emirates carries great significance for the side, although it is not the only match either for the team or for Arsenal.

Two factors could determine how Arsenal handle that confrontation:

  • Midfield control: Limiting City’s progression through central areas would reduce pressure on Arsenal’s defensive line.
  • Finishing efficiency: Turning promising possession into clear chances matters against opponents who rarely concede sustained pressure.

The result will not settle the championship in November. However, it could influence the points gap and the confidence of both contenders entering December.

December Brings Another Examination

Arsenal’s schedule remains demanding after City. An away north London derby against Tottenham follows on 6 December, with Manchester United visiting later that month. Managing recovery and squad rotation alongside European commitments will become increasingly important.

The defending champions have started strongly enough to remain serious contenders. Their next challenge is maintaining that standard against opponents capable of exposing small weaknesses. By the end of November, Arsenal’s title defence should have a much clearer shape.
