Arsenal are set for a busy January. New reports suggest that the Premier League champions are set to bid for three new attacking stars. Alex Baena, Can Uzun and Nicolo Tresoldi are all linked with a move to the Emirates as Mikel Arteta looks for more firepower.
Arsenal transfer news: why these three names now
The summer did not exactly go according to plan. Arsenal were chasing Julian Alvarez, but now, according to reports, he held out for Barcelona, and there was no deal. That said, their title defence has continued in full flow regardless. However, as things stand, it seems that they are keen to add to the squad.
Alvarez continues to dominate the headlines, despite uncertainty over where he might end up. Fabrizio Romano has called for patience and said those involved want the speculation to stop. That, perhaps, is why Arsenal feel the need to cast the net further.
FootballTransfers now claims Arsenal have turned their attention towards his Atletico Madrid team-mate Baena instead.
CaughtOffside claims the Gunners have already made contact with Eintracht Frankfurt about Uzun, while they are also understood to be looking into a move for Tresoldi. Uzun and Tresoldi happen to be represented by the same agency, 11Wins.
However, all this simply amounts to reported interest rather than any confirmed bids.
Baena, Uzun and Tresoldi: who are Arsenal’s targets?
Baena is a Spanish international and a Euro 2024 winner. The Atletico forward was signed from Villarreal in 2025 for around €50m. He can play as a creative midfielder or on the left wing, and Atletico rate him highly and would not be inclined to sell him in the short term. A deal would be hard to do over the winter. Sources suggest clubs may open contact early with next summer in mind.
Uzun is a 20-year-old Turkish forward. Frankfurt signed the player from Nurnberg in 2024 for around €11 million, and the deal goes through to 2029. In the German club’s camp, they rejected the 40 million euro offer from Galatasaray in September. The valuation of the player can go as high as 80 million euros. The situation is quite strong for the German club.
Tresoldi, 22, arrived at Club Brugge from Hannover last season and scored a hat trick in their 4-3 Champions League win at Inter. He has netted nine times in 11 games this term and is valued by the Belgian club at around €60m, with Spurs monitoring his progress.
Mauricio Pochettino knows Bruges well, having signed Christos Tzolis from them last summer, but Tuttosport claim the situation revolves around a potential move in the summer, rather than January.
Can Arsenal land a January deal?
Each transfer is facing an obstacle. Atletico are reluctant sellers, Frankfurt are looking for a sizeable amount and Bruges are competing for a Europa League spot. Not to mention the usual hike in prices during the January window.
But there is a genuine need for cover. Saka’s quad scare and Tzolis’s hamstring complaint is evidence of that, so expect the gossip to be stirred up.
For now, Arsenal supporters should regard the triple swoop as a wish list. The next few weeks will show which names turn serious.
