Arsenal ‘to make January move’ for Champions League sensation Nicolò Tresoldi

Arsenal January move for Nicolò Tresoldi

Arsenal are set to make a January move for Club Brugge striker Nicolò Tresoldi. His excellent beginning to the campaign has tempted European clubs to look towards Belgium.

The highly rated 22-year-old Germany Under-21 international has netted nine times in 11 outings in all competitions this season. His displays in the Champions League having particularly stood out, including a hat-trick in the 4-3 win over Inter Milan on 13 October.

According to reports from The Sun, Arsenal are keeping an eye on Tresoldi as they look to strengthen their attacking options in the January transfer window. However, there has been no official confirmation from the North London club that they have approached the player.

Viktor Gyökeres’s uncertainty could influence Arsenal transfer plans

Arsenal’s interest comes at a time when Viktor Gyökeres’ future at the Emirates Stadium is in doubt.

The Sweden international has been under pressure following his displays. Reports suggest he could be set to leave in January. He has struggled to find his feet under Mikel Arteta.

If he does, then Tresoldi’s record as a clinical finisher would represent a tempting alternative. However, the North London team’s interest is unlikely to result in an immediate move.

Arsenal already have a good relationship with Club Brugge, having signed winger Christos Tzolis from the Belgian side this summer.

The reported £35 million deal would facilitate talks between the clubs if Arsenal are looking to sign Tresoldi. Brugge are not likely to sell one of their best players for a cheap price.

It is understood the Belgian club rejected a £30 million offer from Roma this summer, as Tresoldi’s value has since increased to £42 million.

That potential price tag could make negotiations challenging, particularly if other clubs enter the race.

Tresoldi’s Champions League form attracts attention

Tresoldi has made a big impact in Europe this season, scoring four goals in two Champions League games.

He scored against Aston Villa in September before producing his best goal of the campaign against Inter at San Siro.

Tresoldi opened the scoring from the spot in the first period against the Italian side before finding the net twice after the interval to complete his hat trick. Club Brugge held on for a famous success, Romeo Vermant scoring the goal which proved to be the winner.

His displays have enhanced his status as a forward to look out for, with Arsenal said to be one of the clubs keeping an eye on him.

However, they may have to contend with AC Milan, who are also interested in Tresoldi, who has been a lifelong fan of the Italian club.

Liverpool connection adds an interesting twist

Tresoldi also has a tangential link to England through his family’s history.

His father, Emanuele, previously revealed that the family was planning to move to Liverpool. This was apparently due to his wife’s job in the civil aviation sector. They ended up settling in Hanover, Germany, where Tresoldi joined Hannover 96 as a teen and embarked on his football journey.

That family link doesn’t mean that Liverpool have had any interest in the striker in the past. It does however add another layer of intrigue to the possibility of a move to English football in the future.

For now, Arsenal’s interest is on the watch list. Tresoldi’s consistent scoring form only adding to his appeal. Any January move will be dependent on the intentions of the clubs, the circumstances of the player and the willingness of Brugge to negotiate.
