How Sandro Tonali really feels about Arsenal move ahead of summer transfer window

At a Glance:

  • Tonali has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the past months
  • Man City move also seemed to be in discussion
  • The Italian midfielder may prefer a move to Serie A

With Arsenal’s squad always seemingly in need of a new star signing to keep the project’s momentum going, Sandro Tonali could be a perfect option.

Captain Martin Odegaard has not had the easiest of seasons, as his legacy at the club seems to complicate further, while Declan Rice’s brilliant form has occasionally been negated by poor performances from the overall midfield unit, something Tonali could remedy.

Players such as soon-to-be Leon Goretzka and struggling Real Madrid prospect Eduardo Camavinga would also fill a similar hole to Tonali for Arsenal, but the 25-year-old has shown himself to perform at a high level in the Premier League already, unlike the other two.

Despite his proven quality, there have been questions about how he would truly fit into the Arsenal team, given that his playstyle is similar to a player Arsenal already has—but regardless, with recent news emerging, the saga could very quickly be over.

Sandro Tonali tempted by Serie A switch over Arsenal

A new article from TEAMtalk transfer expert Graeme Bailey implies that Sandro Tonali is now considering a move back to his homeland, with a romantic return to former club AC Milan as one of the options.

Manchester City are apparently interested too, making the £60 million Newcastle man a name in high demand heading into the summer window.

Bailey reports that the financial structure that Newcastle used to pay AC Milan for the midfielder could be crucial in Milan getting their former star back, and that the multi-year payment system the Geordies used could ‘offset part of the cost of re-signing’ of Tonali.

£75 million is the number quoted by Newcastle as the amount needed for his services, which Milan seem tempted to pay, but other Serie A clubs such as Juventus and Inter are also intrigued by the ability of the 32-time Italy international.

What other players are Arsenal looking at in the summer?

There are a variety of ways that Arsenal could go this summer in terms of signings, with depth options such as Sporting’s Ivan Fresneda looking to remedy the injury issues of both Jurrien Timber and Ben White.

Another defensive option, centre-back Oscar Mingueza, is a free agent if he runs down his contract with Celta Vigo this summer—and this looks increasingly likely as Arsenal look to deepen their defensive line even further.

In terms of attack, Tonali’s teammate Anthony Gordon has been heavily speculated on, but the winger could favour a move to Germany’s Bayern Munich over a move to the Emirates.
