Arsenal are gearing up for their crucial Premier League encounter with Burnley on Monday night, which could put Mikel Arteta’s side on the brink of winning the title for the first time in 22 years.

The Clarets travel south for this enormous clash with the Gunners, looking to restore some pride to their dire campaign. For Arteta and his players, this game should signify one more significant step towards silverware.

If they overcome Burnley in N5, then Manchester City will make the trip to the south coast to play Bournemouth on Tuesday night, acutely aware of the fact that anything but a win will see the North Londoners crowned champions.

With that said, here is the latest Arsenal news today, including updates on the Burnley game, the Hale End academy and Stefan Schwarz.

Arsenal set to face Burnley in Monday night Premier League showdown

Arteta will be without Jurrien Timber for the game against Burnley, although the Dutchman is said to be nearing a return and was pictured on grass at London Colney on Saturday morning. Elsewhere, the Spaniard also won’t have Ben White, who is out for the season, at his disposal, and Mikel Merino remains unavailable with a foot injury.

Michael Jackson sent a defiant message to his players and a warning to Arteta ahead of this fixture, claiming that his team won’t lie down for the Gunners. Despite already being relegated, avoiding a bottom-placed finish is still on the cards for the Lancashire side, and a point here could all but confirm 19th for them.

Substitutes could prove to be significant for Arsenal in this match. The Gunners finally have all their attacking players fit and available, providing Arteta with a plethora of different options to call upon from the bench.

Arsenal eyeing British talent for their Academy

Arsenal are reportedly looking to expand their academy recruitment across Britain, as they look to sustain long-term success beyond the current first-team cycle.

That’s according to Simon Collings of SunSport, who suggests that the Gunners have made inroads into Scotland and similar progress in Northern Ireland. Brexit rules around transfers mean non-British players can only sign for the Gunners before they turn 18, prompting this sudden change in approach in the academy.

The Sun’s report indicate that Leicester City’s Jeremy Monga is among the list of British young targets Arsenal are looking at.

Stefan Schwarz exclusive

Former Arsenal star Stefan Schwarz spoke exclusively with ReadArsenal on Friday, discussing a number of topics around the Gunners, including the Champions League final and the Player of the Year Award.

“Declan, David Raya & Gabriel would be my top three [for Player of the Year], and I just think Declan Rice would pip this for me,” he said.

“So consistent and so influential in games, he really is the heartbeat of the team, and without him Arsenal wouldn’t be in the position they are in now.

“But it’s very close as David Raya has been excellent when called upon and Gabriel is a warrior at the back.

On the Budapest showdown with Paris Saint-Germain, he said: “Arsenal have conceded by far the least amount of goals in the Champions League this season. They are yet to be beaten in the competition and must go into the final with a really big chance.

“They have the experience from last year which will definitely mean a lot, plus if they come into the game on the back of a Premier League win, this boost will be massive.

“So I think Arsenal can do it yes. But you are coming up against a superb attacking force from PSG. [Ousmane] Dembele, [Desire] Doue especially will cause Arsenal problems, but they have talent all over the pitch to hurt Arsenal.”
