Arsenal secured their place in the Champions League final by beating Atletico Madrid 1-0 at the Emirates on Tuesday night.
Bukayo Saka tapped home from a few yards out on the stroke of half-time, after Jan Oblak’s save from a Leandro Trossard shot fell to the Gunners’ talismanic winger. Holding out with an impressively resolute display in the second period, the North London club booked their spot in the final of Europe’s most prestigious club competition for just the second time in their history.
They’ll take part in this showpiece event on May 30th, against either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich in Budapest. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s side can win the Premier League before this final, by securing three points in each of their three remaining matches, against West Ham, Burnley and Crystal Palace.
With that said, here is the latest Arsenal news today, including reactions to this Champions League affair, Leandro Trossard and Jamie Carragher.
Reaction to Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid
Arsenal delivered their fans a historic night in N5, and the reaction to this special occasion has unsurprisingly been euphoric.
David Raya raved over Viktor Gyokeres’ performance in the semi-final clash, heralding the Swedish striker’s relentless running and work rate. Gyokeres managed 36 touches throughout his 90 minutes on the pitch, consistently looking to be a focal point for his team.
Meanwhile, Declan Rice’s showing has unsurprisingly earned plaudits. The English midfielder was at the heart of everything Arsenal did right on the night, mopping up across the pitch and dictating the Gunners’ build-up with his 75 touches.
Elsewhere, Thierry Henry lauded Arteta’s team after the game. The Frenchman highlighted Gyokeres’ performance in his post-match analysis on CBS Sports Golazo, as well as the displays of Rice, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

🗣️ “How brave Mikel Arteta was in his starting line-up? I have to give a lot of credit to the usual guys – Saliba, Gabriel, Rice – but I have to give Gyökeres a lot of credit.”

Leandro Trossard heaps praise on ‘unbelievable’ Declan Rice
Leandro Trossard was another who started and impressed for the Gunners in this semi-final. However, the Belgian opted to praise one of his teammates in a post-match interview with HaytersTV, rather than focus on his own endeavours.
The Arsenal winger praised Rice’s leadership, revealing that the midfielder consistently speaks up in the dressing room.
“I don’t think it’s just tonight, he’s an unbelievable player, he’s helped us already so much this season and in the past,” Trossard said.
“I think it’s natural for him to be a leader, to talk to the players and also show it on the pitch with his feet.”
Jamie Carragher reveals that he’s ‘jealous’ of Arsenal
Reaching a Champions League final is a significant moment in any football club’s history, and for Arsenal, it’s arguably more significant than it would be for most. Despite being one of the most well-supported clubs on the planet, the Gunners lack European pedigree, and this is a huge stain on their CV.
Now, they have the chance to rectify this when they travel to Budapest. Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo, Jamie Carragher revealed that he’s jealous of Arsenal.
“There’s something about it,” he said.
“I’ve been in that position a couple of times, the second leg’s at your ground, and if you can win it, that moment with players and fans, when you see that connection, they’re nights that those supporters will never forget.
“That night, they want more of those to come and make it a regular thing of getting to the Champions League, but I love that, and it almost makes me jealous that it’s not my own team. When you see that connection, the faces of the supporters, that’s why you support your team home and away.”
