Declan Rice is becoming Arsenal’s go-to man in the Champions League after he bossed proceedings in his side’s latest 1-0 win against Atletico Madrid.

Rice was Arsenal’s best player against Atletico Madrid, taking home the Player of the Match award after standing out at the Emirates Stadium.

The 27-year-old, who has already triumphed in Europe by winning the Europa Conference League at West Ham now has the chance to go one step further and become a Champions League winner in May.

As Rice impressed against Atletico Madrid, Leandro Trossard sang his praises after the contest.

Initially, Trossard claimed that Rice, who was class against Fulham has been consistently brilliant for Arsenal all season, with his latest exploits against Atletico Madrid being another example of his quality.

The Belgian said via HaytersTV: “I don’t think it’s just tonight, he’s an unbelievable player, he’s helped us already so much this season and in the past.”

Trossard went on to reveal that Rice always speaks to his Arsenal teammates and is a leader behind the scenes as well.

“I think it’s natural for him to be a leader, to talk to the players and also show it on the pitch with his feet.”

Declan Rice could become a future Arsenal captain

Arsenal fans will be delighted to hear that one of the players in Trossard has gone out of his way to praise Rice’s leadership qualities after their win against Atletico Madrid.

However, in the future, the Englishman could don the armband at the Emirates Stadium. Martin Odegaard could leave Arsenal in the summer, giving him the chance to become the new club captain.

The Mirror revealed Arsenal’s five-man leadership group ahead of the campaign.

  • Bukayo Saka
  • Rice
  • Gabriel Magalhaes
  • Mikel Merino

As things stand, Saka is more likely to succeed Odegaard as Arsenal’s next skipper if the Norwegian departs the club in the summer.

However, Rice could very well be in with a chance based on Trossard’s revelation.
