Arsenal have no intention of selling Martin Ødegaard or reducing his importance if they add another central midfielder this summer.
TEAMtalk reports that Mikel Arteta continues to view the Norway international as a central figure in his plans.
The Gunners are pursuing Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães, while Lille teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi has also been monitored.
However, Arsenal’s midfield recruitment is intended to improve competition and depth rather than replace Ødegaard.
The report adds that sporting director Andrea Berta has held exploratory discussions with the midfielder’s representatives over a new long-term contract. Those early talks are said to have been positive.
Ødegaard’s current agreement runs until 2028. The 27-year-old is reportedly happy in north London and remains committed to captaining the club.
Guimarães arrival would not threaten Ødegaard role
Guimarães would offer Arteta a different midfield profile to Ødegaard.
The Brazilian can operate deeper, carry possession through pressure and provide greater physical control. Ødegaard would remain Arsenal’s main creative midfielder and one of the leaders around whom Arteta has built his squad.
Arsenal’s reported interest in Guimarães has accelerated, although Newcastle continue to demand a substantial fee.
As Read Arsenal recently examined, the midfielder is believed to favour a move to the Emirates Stadium, but Newcastle’s valuation remains the main obstacle.
Bouaddi represents a longer-term option. The 18-year-old has attracted interest from several leading clubs following his performances for Lille and Morocco.
Neither pursuit is currently expected to affect Ødegaard’s position. Arsenal instead want to surround their captain with greater quality as they prepare to defend the Premier League title and compete again in the Champions League.
Contract discussions remain at an early stage, but the club’s position appears clear. Ødegaard remains part of Arsenal’s long-term plans both as captain and one of Arteta’s most important players.
