Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal took another dent in their chances of being crowned the champions of the Premier League this weekend as they lost 2-1 to Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium.
It loosens their grip on the trophy – one they haven’t been able to achieve since Arteta replaced Unai Emery at the back end of 2019.
The Gunners are still in the driving seat, as it stands, as they remain nine points ahead of Manchester City, a team they are set to face on April 19 in what has been deemed a potential title decider.

With every blemish on Arteta’s record, though, the noise surrounding his future at the club begins to increase. And a new report has revealed the stance of the powers that be at N5.
Will Arteta be sacked? Report reveals all about Spaniard’s future at Arsenal
For many, the fact that he’s transformed Arsenal into serial title challengers means that he’s got plenty of credit in the bank; but that is not the case for all supporters, though, as the lack of silverware weighs heavy.
Arteta’s only trophy since his arrival was the FA Cup in 2020 when his side – largely made up of Emery-inspired signings – beat Chelsea.
In the last three seasons, the north Londoners have finished second consecutively and there have been eyebrows been raised over his trophy-winning credentials and whether he’s the right man for the job.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo have reported that Arteta is beginning to lose credit with the Gunners hierarchy.
That’s despite reports in the last few weeks suggesting that he will put pen to paper on a new deal as Arsenal boss, which would see him become one of the highest-earning managers on the planet.

The aforementioned report, however, says that said contract extension could be at risk if he fails to win either the Premier League or the Champions League in 2025/26.
“In that case, Arteta would not continue at Arsenal next season,” the report stated.
At the time of writing, Arsenal are 1-0 up in their two-legged tie with Sporting CP in the Champions League quarter-finals and they are top of the Premier League with a hefty gap on second-placed City.
Cesc Fabregas identified as potential Arteta replacement
Not only have Mundo Deportivo reported that Arteta could be walking on a tightrope heading into the summer but they’ve also named former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas as his potential successor.
Fabregas has established himself as one of the best young managers in world football since taking over the reins at Como 1907.
Like his compatriot, Fabregas is an attractive prospect because he knows the club well. A Hale End graduate, the 38-year-old played for the Gunners senior side between 2004 and 2011 and chalked up 303 outings.

Como are currently fifth in Serie A with a match in hand over fourth-placed Juventus as their unlikely dash for Champions League football looks likely.
Fabregas, however, is still in the infancy of his career in the dugout and making the jump from Como to Arsenal, where the expectations are much higher, could stunt his growth as a manager.
