Arsenal’s latest transfer roundup is led by their pursuit of Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães, although the two clubs remain apart over a potential fee.
Julián Álvarez and Ezri Konsa have also been linked with moves to north London. John Stones, however, is expected to join Inter Milan after leaving Manchester City.
Arsenal transfer roundup: Guimarães talks remain unresolved
Guimarães has informed Newcastle of his desire to join Arsenal, but the midfielder has not attempted to force a move. Newcastle maintain that their captain is not for sale and have shown no willingness to accept an offer below their valuation.
A reported proposal worth £70million has not changed their position. ReadArsenal reported that Newcastle may demand at least £80million before considering a sale.
Arsenal have made progress with the player. Fabrizio Romano reports that personal terms have been agreed, with another official offer expected from the Premier League champions. There is not yet an agreement between the clubs.
Guimarães has two years remaining on his Newcastle contract, while the club hold an option to extend it until 2029. That places Newcastle in a strong negotiating position, despite the Brazil international’s preference for a move.
The 28-year-old would offer Arsenal another proven central midfielder alongside Declan Rice. He is comfortable receiving possession under pressure and can operate as either a deeper midfielder or a number eight.
Arsenal must now decide whether to move closer to Newcastle’s valuation. Guimarães is expected to rejoin Eddie Howe’s squad for pre-season training if no agreement is reached.
Álvarez links remain at an early stage
Álvarez represents a more ambitious attacking option. The Argentina international has spent two seasons with Atlético Madrid after leaving Manchester City.
Standard Sport lists Álvarez among the forwards being considered by Arsenal, but there is no indication that talks with Atlético have reached an advanced stage.
The supplied VAVEL report raises the possibility of Viktor Gyökeres moving in the opposite direction as part of an agreement. Such a move would require Arsenal to change course on a striker who joined the club last summer.
Álvarez can play centrally or from a wider position, while his previous spell at Manchester City gives him considerable Premier League experience. Atlético would still be expected to demand a significant package for one of their leading players.
For now, the Guimarães negotiations appear considerably further developed.
Stones chooses Inter as Konsa interest continues
Arsenal have considered defensive additions because William Saliba faces a spell out with a back injury.
Stones emerged as a possible short-term option after his Manchester City contract expired. The England international offered experience and familiarity with the possession-based approach used by Mikel Arteta.
That option now appears to have closed. ReadArsenal reported that Stones has agreed to join Inter Milan on a free transfer.
Konsa remains among the defenders linked with Arsenal. The Aston Villa player can operate at centre-back or right-back and completed 95.5% of his Premier League passes last season, according to the supplied report.
There is a considerable difference between the clubs’ reported valuations. Arsenal are said to value Konsa at around £35million, while Villa want closer to £60million. No formal offer has been reported.
Christian Nørgaard could also attract interest after making only seven Premier League appearances during his first season at Arsenal. VAVEL reports interest from Italy and Saudi Arabia, although Standard Sport has suggested the midfielder would prefer to remain in north London.
Guimarães remains the clearest priority from the players included in the roundup. Arsenal have made progress with the midfielder, but an improved agreement with Newcastle is still required.
