David Ornstein confirms Arsenal agree £34m deal for next signing

Arsenal have reached an agreement worth around £34million with Club Brugge for the signing of Christos Tzolis.

David Ornstein reports that the Gunners are now finalising the transfer after making significant progress in negotiations with the Belgian club.

The Greece international has been keen to join Mikel Arteta’s side and previously rejected the opportunity to hold talks with other interested clubs.

Arsenal must now complete the final paperwork and remaining formalities before Tzolis can undergo his medical and sign his contract.

The agreement follows Leandro Trossard’s permanent move to Besiktas, which opened a place for another left-sided attacker in Arteta’s squad.

Ornstein previously confirmed that Arsenal’s move for Tzolis would not affect their separate interest in Morgan Rogers. The Gunners could therefore add the Club Brugge winger without ending their pursuit of the Aston Villa attacker.

Tzolis deal will not end Rogers pursuit

Tzolis is expected to provide competition and depth across Arsenal’s attacking positions rather than arrive as the club’s only major forward signing.

The 24-year-old rebuilt his career in Belgium after leaving Norwich City and produced 22 goals and 29 assists across 52 appearances last season.

His direct running and ability to play from the left should give Arteta another option alongside Gabriel Martinelli.

As Read Arsenal reported earlier on Thursday, the Gunners had moved close to completing a deal after Tzolis made Arsenal his preferred destination.

Rogers remains a separate and more expensive target, while Bradley Barcola has also been discussed as an alternative.

Arsenal are now close to completing the Tzolis transfer, with an official announcement expected once the final stages have been completed.
