Arsenal Handed Coventry City Opener as 2026/27 Premier League Fixtures Are Released

Arsenal will open the 2026/27 Premier League season at home to Coventry City on Friday 21 August, with the fixture selected for an 8pm kick-off on Sky Sports.

The Premier League released the full schedule on Friday morning, confirming that Mikel Arteta’s side begin their title defence at Emirates Stadium against the newly promoted Midlands club. Arsenal then travel to Aston Villa on Saturday 29 August before hosting Chelsea on Saturday 5 September, giving the champions an immediate London derby inside the opening three league rounds.

Early Arsenal run gives Arteta a sharp opening test

The fixture list, published in full by the Premier League’s official Arsenal schedule update, also hands Arsenal away trips to Sunderland and Brighton before the end of September.

That makes the Coventry opener more than a ceremonial curtain-raiser. Arsenal will expect to start strongly at home, but Arteta will know the first three matches can quickly shape the mood around another title push. It also gives supporters an early marker for how sharply the champions return after a World Cup-disrupted summer.

The first north London derby arrives away at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday 5 December, while the reverse fixture at Emirates Stadium is scheduled for Saturday 1 May. Arsenal finish the campaign at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday 30 May 2027.
