Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal To Open Premier League Title Defence Against Coventry City

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will begin their 2026/27 Premier League title defence at home to Coventry City on Friday, 21 August. The Premier League has confirmed the full fixture list, with the champions handed an Emirates Stadium opener against the promoted side at 20:00 BST, live on Sky Sports, according to the Premier League’s confirmed Arsenal fixture release.

The date gives Arsenal an immediate spotlight slot as they start the defence of the crown they won last season. It also gives Arteta a clear first marker for pre-season planning, squad conditioning and any final transfer decisions before competitive football resumes.

Arsenal’s early run gives Arteta a quick test

After Coventry, Arsenal travel to Aston Villa on Saturday, 29 August before hosting Chelsea on Saturday, 5 September. That means the champions will face a promoted opponent, a demanding away trip and a major London fixture within their opening three league matches.

The first north London derby is scheduled for Saturday, 5 December away at Tottenham Hotspur, with the return match at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, 1 May. Arsenal are also due to host Manchester City on Saturday, 28 November and travel to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, 30 January.

The campaign is currently set to finish at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, 30 May. For Arteta, the confirmed schedule now turns the title defence from a summer theme into a dated, structured challenge.
