At a Glance:
- Arsenal have taken a step to snap Sandro Tonali up.
- Arsenal are targeting a new midfielder.
- Worry for Martin Zubimendi.
Sandro Tonali seems to be one of the many names on Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta’s summer transfer shortlist.
Arsenal have contacted people close to Tonali, who could be set to leave Newcastle United in the summer.
Mikel Arteta’s side are targeting a midfielder and the Italian international is certainly one of the best at the Premier League’s disposal. Tonali’s versatility is a trait Arteta could appreciate as well, as the Serie A winner looks the part as a central midfielder and also as a number six.
Now, it seems like the Gunners have taken yet another step to secure the 26-year-old’s services.
Arsenal made calls to sign Sandro Tonali recently
Tonali could further elevate this Arsenal side and several supporters will be delighted to know that the Premier League champions made calls in recent days as they attempt to secure his services.
Fabrizio Romano revealed on his YouTube channel: “Sandro Tonali could be an option for more clubs [aside from Manchester United], Arsenal made some calls in the recent days.
“So, also, Arsenal are in the mix.”
Martin Zubimendi should be wary if Sandro Tonali joins Mikel Arteta’s side
Nacho Monreal questioned Martin Zubimendi’s future at Arsenal if Tonali ends up making his way to the Emirates Stadium in the summer.
The North Londoners are likely to play 50 to 60 games next season as well and in theory, Zubimendi will be granted sufficient game time in the 2026/2027 campaign.
However, Mikel Arteta seems to fancy Declan Rice as his go-to number six now and with Tonali being an expert box-to-box midfielder, the former Real Sociedad ace could well just become a squad player.
Considering Myles Lewis-Skelly eventually ousted Zubimendi last season, the former AC Milan dynamo could do the same as well, being much more of a seasoned operator than the England international anyway.
However, only time will tell how things pan out for both players next season, but what seems clear as day is that Arsenal will not stand still in the summer transfer window.
