Arsenal plotting Anthony Gordon transfer for two untold reasons

Share

At a Glance:

  • Why Arsenal are targeting Anthony Gordon.
  • Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Liverpool all keen.
  • How serious is Arsenal’s interest?

Anthony Gordon has been linked with a move to Arsenal for a number of months as it looks increasingly likely that he could leave Newcastle United in the summer.

Arsenal have done their homework on Gordon, with Gabriel Martinelli potentially set to exit the club at the end of the season.

However, the former Everton speedster has caught the eye of several clubs around Europe.

Bayern Munich are eyeing Gordon as well, having held talks with the player’s representatives. However, there are reasons in particular why the Gunners are fans of the Carabao Cup winner.

The England international’s contract expires in 2030, which means he is likely to cost a pretty penny.

As things stand, Newcastle value Gordon at £75 million and will be happy to sell him to Bayern Munich if they fork out the fee.

However, The Athletic have reported that the fee in question would be ‘prohibitive’ for Bayern, who value Yan Diomande as their ‘top target.’

As for Arsenal, they are huge fans of Gordon for two reasons.

  • Gordon’s pace
  • His versatility

The report claims that the £75 million asking price could be ‘prohibitive’ for the Gunners as well. Gordon’s ‘age and track record’ are factors behind why the fee in question could be considered excessive by Arsenal.

Arsenal have scouted Anthony Gordon alternative

As a result, it is unclear whether the winger is high on the club’s shortlist.

It has also been mentioned that Liverpool remain interested in signing the 25-year-old.

The same goes for Chelsea but as things stand, their main focus is on results and finding a replacement for Liam Rosenior.

Arsenal scouted Mika Godts, who is also a left-winger like Gordon.
