  • Arsenal will play Newcastle United in the Premier League after facing Manchester City
  • One of Newcastle’s key players will be suspended for the clash against Mikel Arteta’s side

With fixtures coming thick and fast, Arsenal do not have much time to ponder on their catastrophic 2-1 defeat at the hands of AFC Bournemouth.

While Bournemouth outplayed Mikel Arteta’s side, the Gunners have the chance to right their wrongs on Wednesday in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Sporting CP.

Furthermore, Arsenal travel to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City on Sunday in a contest that will likely determine their chances of becoming Premier League champions this season.

Micah Richards questioned Arsenal’s title credentials, but in the coming weeks, Mikel Arteta and Co will be desperate to prove that their recent exits from the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, coupled with their loss against the Cherries, were mere anomalies.

Joelinton suspended ahead of Arsenal vs Newcastle

Such was the dire nature of Arsenal’s recent form that even key players have come under scrutiny, with Declan Rice’s captaincy being questioned against Bournemouth as things have looked awry at the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks.

In the title run-in, one of the fixtures Mikel Arteta must be keeping a close eye on is against Newcastle United — considering his side have lost three out of their last five games against the Magpies.

However, the good news for Arsenal is that one of Newcastle’s main men in Joelinton will be suspended ahead of the visitors’ trip to the capital later this month after having picked up his 10th yellow card this season.

Considering Joelinton was one of Newcastle’s better performers against Crystal Palace and remains one of their standout players, Arsenal fans have every reason to be relieved about the Brazilian’s absence.

Joelinton record vs Arsenal

The former Hoffenheim midfielder embodies Eddie Howe’s philosophy in several ways, as he is renowned for being a relentless worker in the middle of the park, aggressive and up for the fight at all times.

However, Joelinton’s record against Arsenal shows that even in his absence, the league leaders will rightfully be considered overwhelming favourites once they go head-to-head with Newcastle.

The 29-year-old has won a mere four games against the North Londoners since his move to Newcastle, suffering eight defeats and earning just one draw in his 13 outings against them so far.

If Arsenal aim to become the champions of England, they will have to further dent Joelinton’s record against them and rise to the occasion.
