  • Arsenal are looking to strengthen their attacking ranks this summer.
  • Bayer Leverkusen’s Christian Kofane is reportedly on their radar.
  • The Gunners are reportedly frontrunners for the striker’s services.

It’s set to be a busy summer of incomings and outgoings for Mikel Arteta and his table-topping Arsenal, who are looking to get back to winning ways after their recent FA Cup exit at the hands of Championship side Southampton.

In what has been a tricky couple of weeks or so for the Gunners, crashing out at the quarter-final stage was unexpected after they entered the encounter as heavy favourites.

Arsenal are still on course to win two trophies this season – the Premier League and the Champions League – but a number of changes are expected regardless of whether they taste success or not between now and the campaign’s end.

Bayer Leverkusen hotshot Christian Kofane is reportedly on the Londoners’ summer shortlist after proving his worth in gold in the Bundesliga.

In fact, his agent recently revealed that he had been in contact with the Gunners over a potential move. “Yes, there is contact between me and Arsenal. But their focus right now is to win the league – from there, everything will start moving,” he said.

Gunners leading Kofane race as Bayern Munich withdraw interest

Although Viktor Gyokeres was signed last summer, it’s not unfair to say the Swede has not set the world alight – and it would be wise for Arteta and Co to bolster their attacking ranks in the summer transfer window.

That is especially the case because Gabriel Jesus is likely to leave at the end of 2025/26 and Kai Havertz’s long-standing injury problems.

Kofane, 19, could be the perfect antidote to Arteta’s issues at the sharp end of the football pitch – and they’ve been handed a boost in their pursuit.

According to journalist Christian Falk, Arteta’s side are now the frontrunners in the race for the 19-year-old, who has the potential to become one of the world’s best frontmen in years to come.

That’s because Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich are likely to prioritise other targets to become an understudy to the talismanic Harry Kane.

A six-cap Cameroon international at the time of writing, Christian Kofane has plundered 15 goal contributions (seven goals and eight assists) in 40 appearances this season.

Far from the finished article, of course, the Gunners are reportedly expected to make a formal bid for the youngster in the upcoming transfer market.

How much he would cost remains to be seen – but Florian Plettenberg recently claimed that Leverkusen value the centre-forward between the £52.3 million and £61 million mark, though he could cost much more if a bidding war ensues.

Could Christian Kofane’s excessive price tag deter Arsenal move?

Spending such a large sum of money on Kofane – who has performed well of late but still needs to refine his game – would be a risk. But it could turn out to be a masterstroke if he arrives and hits the ground running.

Albeit still very young, the 19-year-old centre-forward is a physical specimen: he can hold up the ball while acting as a target man but he also possesses explosive pace to run beyond defenders.

Flexible enough to play in an array of systems – from a lone striker to a two-man partnership – Arsenal boss Arteta could really use a player of his ilk to sure up the club’s attack for the future.

Signing a young and up-and-coming striker could be the play with a more experienced frontman like Gyokeres currently at the top of the pecking order.

Viewed as the potential heir to countryman Samuel Eto’o in his homeland, Christian Kofane to Arsenal would be a risk for all parties, sure, but it could be a risk worth taking. He’d certain improve their ability to break down low-block opposition.
