Arsenal are on the brink of winning their first Premier League title for over 20 years, and defender Cristhian Mosquera has revealed that he’s optimistic about his team’s chances of securing multiple pieces of silverware.
The Gunners sit nine points clear at the summit of the English top flight, with seven matches left to play, although chasers Manchester City still have eight fixtures left. The two sides meet in mid-April at the Etihad, in what will essentially be a straight shootout for the title.
Pep Guardiola’s side will go into that game with confidence, having comfortably beaten Arsenal at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final before the international break. Despite suffering this defeat in disappointing circumstances, Mosquera remains positive on the North Londoners’ trophy credentials heading into the run-in.

Cristhian Mosquera on Arsenal’s trophy chances
Arsenal were significantly worse than City at Wembley, raising alarm bells amongst supporters regarding their team’s ability to get over the line this season. Mikel Arteta’s side failed to create anything of note, while the Citizens controlled possession and territory for much of the second half.
With the two teams still set to play each other this term, and with City boasting a game in hand over the Gunners, it’s understandable that some fans of the North London club are concerned about their team. While they should be in a position to win the title with little fuss between now and the end of the season, it doesn’t feel as though it’ll be a walk in the park for Arteta’s team.
That said, 21-year-old centre-back Mosquera is confident moving forward, claiming that he and his teammates are ‘ready’ for the challenge. He also believes the Gunners can go all the way in the Champions League.
“In recent years, Arsenal hasn’t quite achieved what it set out to do, but I think we’re ready this year,” he told Europa Press.
“We know we have the chance to win titles. We’re going to do everything we can to bring joy to the fans. In the Champions League, I think we’re doing pretty well this year, we’re in the quarter-finals now, and hopefully we can go further and win it.”
Arsenal fans will no doubt take solace from Mosquera’s positivity, with his feelings likely reflecting the morale around the Gunners’ training ground.
Cristhian Mosquera says two Arsenal players are like ‘siblings’ to him
Mosquera has enjoyed an excellent debut campaign in North London. Signing from Valencia for just £13 million, he wasn’t expected to make a major impact for the Gunners, at least in his first season at the club.
However, whenever he’s been called upon to fill in for William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, he’s been dependable. Aside from a difficult outing away at Brighton last month, the Spaniard has looked assured and more than ready to take on the burden of playing for the best team in the Premier League.
Fitting right in.

He’s subsequently been rewarded for this form with a first call-up and cap for the senior Spanish national team, which came last week against Serbia. Speaking about his recent successes, Mosquera cited Saliba and Gabriel as pivotal players who have helped him this term.
“From day one, the two of them have been by my side, giving me advice and always trying to look after me, like parents, like older siblings,” he said.
“I’m very grateful to them. They are two of the best centre-backs in the world, and it’s a pleasure and a privilege to train with them and watch them play every weekend.”
