At A Glance:

  • Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are looking to sign a new striker this summer.
  • Gabriel Jesus could leave, while Viktor Gyokeres has not pulled up trees.
  • The Gunners are reportedly leading the race for a 21-year-old centre-forward.

Arsenal may still be strong in their three-pronged pursuit of silverware this season but improving their frontline will still be Mikel Arteta’s priority this summer.

The Gunners fluffed their chance at ending their silverware drought last weekend, losing 2-0 to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final, but that will not deter them between now and the summer.

Currently sat at the top of the Premier League and in the quarter-finals of both the FA Cup and the Champions League, could it finally be Arteta’s year?

Defensively, the Gunners are set up for the future but their impotence in the final third is a cause for concern and focusing their recruitment on attackers could make it a club-defining transfer window.

Arsenal’s Nicolo Tresoldi pursuit handed massive boost

What with Gabriel Jesus likely to leave north London in the summer and concerns over whether Viktor Gyokeres is the right fit, there’s no doubt that adding another striker will be on the cards.

Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid is high on the club’s radar, of course, and Barcelona’s Ferran Torres is also being eyed by the decision-makers at the Emirates Stadium.

Journalist Christian Falk has added another name to the shortlist of strikers for Arsenal recently – Club Brugge youngster Nicolo Tresoldi.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Falk wrote: “Arsenal are currently the favorites to sign German striker Nicolo Tresoldi (21/Club Brugge). The club is seriously interested and talks are underway.”

In 2025/26 alone, the 2004-born goal-getter has 17 strikes – and an additional five assists – in 48 outings.

The youngster has shone in Belgium following his move from Hannover 96 in July and the Gunners are reportedly leading the race for his signature in the summer.

Whether Nicolo Tresoldi would walk into Arsenal’s starting line-up remains to be seen but he has outscored Gyokeres this term and he’s established himself as one of the best young strikers around.

Would Tresoldi be an upgrade on Gyokeres?

The question probably should be: have Arsenal learned the lesson from signing a striker outside of Europe’s top five leagues?

Gyokeres’ impressive goal-getting rate has not translated from Portugal to England – and there could be similar concerns in terms of 21-year-old and how well he’d adapt to tougher surroundings.

Nicolo Tresoldi is six years Gyokeres’ junior and has time to grow out of his rawness, whereas the Arsenal striker is already nearing his peak age.

It’s difficult to compare their statistics across the leagues given the Premier League is much harder than the Jupiler Pro League.

That said, Tresoldi’s return looks solid for a centre-forward of such a young age. The Germany Under-21 international certainly has a bright future… but he may be too much of a gamble for Arteta.
