Ljungberg confirms coaching role with Arsenal

Former Arsenal player and Invincible Freddie Ljungberg has confirmed that he will return to the club in a coaching role.

The Swede played for the Gunners between 1998 and 2007, where his brilliant wing play was vital in two Premier League title wins, as well as two FA Cup victories. Ljungberg has particularly been credited as a key reason for Arsenal’s Premier League triumph in 2002, where he filled in for the injured Robert Pires sublimely.

Ljungberg also became the first player to score in two consecutive FA Cup finals in 2002, after netting against both Liverpool in the 2001 final and Chelsea the year after.

After his departure in 2007, Ljungberg went on to play for several different clubs including West Ham, Seattle Sounders and Celtic. The Swede officially retired in 2012 but came out of retirement for a short stint at Mumbai City, where he played four games for the Indian side before being forced back into retirement through injury.

Ljungberg’s work with the under-15’s will be his first coaching work since retirement, but he has been working for Arsenal as an ambassador for the club since 2013.
