Alex Scott to Arsenal should move higher up Mikel Arteta’s transfer agenda as Chelsea and Manchester United continue to circle.
The Bournemouth midfielder has rejected a new contract and possesses several qualities suited to Arsenal’s possession and pressing demands.
Scott is now 22, rather than 21, and has entered the final two years of his Bournemouth deal. The Cherries remain determined to keep him, but Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are regarded as the leading contenders for his signature.

Scott stands out through his close control and ability to escape pressure in congested midfield areas. He can receive the ball with an opponent nearby, turn away from challenges and carry possession into more dangerous positions.
A detailed Sky Sports analysis of Scott recorded 431 carries during the 2025/26 Premier League campaign. That was the eighth-highest total among midfielders, with almost half classed as progressive.
His movement without the ball is equally relevant. Scott registered the sixth-most supporting runs of any Premier League player last season, reflecting his willingness to create passing options and join attacks.
Those qualities could suit one of Arsenal’s advanced midfield positions. Scott can receive between the lines, support Declan Rice and contribute to the aggressive counter-press Arteta demands after possession is lost.
Scott has developed into a stronger defensive midfielder
Scott is no longer simply the technically gifted player nicknamed the “Guernsey Grealish” during his breakthrough at Bristol City.
His ground-duel success rate improved from 47 per cent during his first Bournemouth season to 56 per cent last term. That figure placed him above Elliot Anderson, Bruno Guimaraes and Martin Zubimendi, while his aerial-duel success increased to 54 per cent.
Andoni Iraola used Scott as a number six, eight and 10, although most of his minutes came in a box-to-box role. His positional flexibility would give Arteta cover across several midfield positions without requiring a major tactical adjustment.
Scott also played 625 of the possible 630 minutes across seven matches in which Bournemouth took points from Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea. Iraola trusted him during the club’s most demanding fixtures.
Arsenal face an expensive Premier League race
Bournemouth’s negotiating position remains strong despite Scott’s contract decision. The club expect him to stay and have already rejected enquiries from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Chelsea have reportedly seen a £64million bid rejected, with Bournemouth valuing Scott at approximately £80million. That asking price would turn any deal into a major investment rather than an inexpensive succession move.
Arsenal are already pursuing another Premier League midfielder. The latest Bruno Guimaraes transfer update suggests Newcastle also want considerably more than Arsenal’s proposed £70million offer.
Scott would provide a younger, homegrown alternative with significant room for development. Arsenal have continued recruiting midfield talent at academy level too, recently reaching an agreement for Cardiff City prospect Axel Donczew.
Alex Scott to Arsenal would carry financial risk at £80million. His press resistance, versatility and Premier League experience still give Arsenal a strong reason to remain near the front of the queue before a rival completes a deal.
