Mikel Arteta Given Arsenal’s 2026/27 Key Dates After Coventry Opener Confirmed

Arsenal have been given the core shape of their 2026/27 campaign after the Premier League confirmed the fixture list and the club set out the key dates around Mikel Arteta’s squad.

The champions are due to open their title defence at Emirates Stadium against Coventry City on Friday 21 August, with a 20:00 BST kick-off selected for live TV. The date now gives Arteta and Arsenal supporters a fixed starting point after a summer shaped by the World Cup, transfer business and pre-season planning.

The wider Premier League schedule also underlines how quickly Arsenal’s season will sharpen. After Coventry, the Gunners face Aston Villa away and Chelsea at home in the opening weeks, before early meetings with Brighton, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Liverpool arrive before the end of October.

Arsenal also used their official diary guide to remind supporters that the summer transfer window opened on Monday 15 June, while the Premier League campaign begins later than usual following the expanded World Cup. The full fixture list and opening-night detail were also confirmed by the Premier League’s official Arsenal fixture release.

For Arteta, the immediate significance is clarity. Arsenal can now build their return plan around Coventry, a demanding September run and the need to reintegrate World Cup players without losing early momentum.
