Former Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze will be crowned a Premier League champion at Selhurst Park on Sunday, with Arsenal set to lift the title for the first time in 22 years.

The Gunners’ status as champions was confirmed on Tuesday night, as Manchester City’s draw away at Bournemouth meant Pep Guardiola’s team could no longer mathematically catch Mikel Arteta’s men. Joyous scenes unfolded outside the Emirates Stadium and at London Colney, where the North Londoners’ squad celebrated long into the night.

A meaningless affair in South London now awaits Arteta’s side, although this trip to Croydon will hold some symbolic value to one member of the Spaniard’s ensemble. Eze will receive a glorious homecoming at Selhurst Park, and Oliver Glasner has subsequently had his say on this ahead of the momentous occasion.

Eze signed for Arsenal from Palace for £67.5 million last summer. After initially struggling to adapt to the new demands placed on him by Arteta, the playmaker has developed and thrived in the second half of the campaign for the Gunners.

He’s now a Premier League champion and will receive his winners’ medal and get his hands on the trophy back at the club that helped him get to where he is today. Having made 169 appearances for Palace and having led the South London club to FA Cup glory, he’s sure to receive a warm reception from the home supporters upon his return.

This game will also mark Glasner’s final home match in charge of the Eagles, so it’s ultimately set to be an emotional affair all around. Speaking to the media on Thursday, the Austrian manager was asked about Eze winning the title.

“It was easy for us because it was either Eberechi or Marc [Guehi] & Michael [Olise] at Bayern,” he said.

“Three players I was lucky to manage. If you go in a restaurant and see a nice steak, it’s good, but I like seeing how it becomes a nice steak.”

He then paid homage to Eze’s outstanding work ethic during the player’s time at Palace.

“Eberechi stayed after training to practise and practise his shooting [at Palace]. Two hours after we’d finish, I’d leave my office, and Marc would still be there working on his heading & passing.”

“A special congratulations to Eberechi Eze, he made the right decision to go to Arsenal and not another club.”

Arsenal supporters would particularly have enjoyed that final line from Glasner, given it alludes to Eze’s decision to reject Tottenham to sign for the Gunners.

Both of these teams have European finals to look forward to after this match, and thus, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see both managers rotate heavily.

Palace face Rayo Vallecano in Leipzig on Wednesday, looking to win their first European trophy. Meanwhile, Arsenal take on Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest next Saturday.

The Gunners can complete a historic Premier League and Champions League double by beating PSG, which would secure Eze legendary status in North London.

Speaking on Thursday, Glasner congratulated Arsenal on their title win.

“I want to congratulate Arsenal, Mikel Arteta, his players and staff for winning the title after 22 years,” he said.

“It’s a fantastic job he’s done.”
