  • Arsenal still have a lingering regret.

Arsenal were heavily linked with Manchester United attacker Matheus Cunha when he was still a Wolves player.

However, in the summer of 2025, the Brazilian ended up sealing a move to Old Trafford.

With summer signings such as Viktor Gyokeres struggling at Arsenal and Noni Madueke yet to convince in red and white, Mikel Arteta could have done with a Premier League-proven attacker like Cunha.

If the Gunners do end up finishing second in the Premier League for the fourth season in a row, their limp attack could play a major hand in that.

So much so that as per Miguel Delaney’s newsletter for the Independent, Arsenal still regret not signing Cunha.

Arsenal feel Matheus Cunha signing would’ve sealed Premier League title already

However, Cunha has had a mixed bag of a season, registering just eight goals and two assists in the league this season. But the 26-year-old is yet to hit the heights at Manchester United he did at Wolves.

The former Atletico Madrid technician has still managed to produce moments of magic, such as his stunning goal in Manchester United’s 4-2 win against Brighton this campaign.

Notably, Cunha came off the bench to score a belter of a strike to clinch United’s 3-2 victory at the Emirates Stadium as well.

Some people at Arsenal are of the opinion that had they have signed Cunha, they would have wrapped up the title race already.

“Some figures at Arsenal were meanwhile lamenting that they could have gone clear in this title had they bought Matheus Cunha, who they did look at six months before United signed the Brazilian.”

How Arsenal feel about Matheus Cunha reflects badly on Eberechi Eze

Ultimately, Eberechi Eze was supposed to be a difference-maker for Arsenal in the title race, and the club’s regret about not signing Cunha is not a good look for the former.

Eze’s tally of six goals and two assists in 18 league starts is a solid return.

  • Starts: 18
  • Goals: 6
  • Assists: 2

However, the fact that the Englishman was dropped by Mikel Arteta at one point and has only truly run the show against Tottenham twice indicates that he is yet to set the world alight at Arsenal. The good news for Mikel Arteta is Eze looked bright against Manchester City.

If the 27-year-old could recapture his sparkling showings at Crystal Palace until the end of the season and lead them to the title, he could go down as a hero at the club.
