Micah Richards has claimed that he expects Arsenal to beat both Newcastle United and Fulham in their next two Premier League games.

With Manchester City going unbeaten for three months domestically, Mikel Arteta will not need any reminding that his Gunners side cannot afford to slip up any further in the title race.

The advantage on Arteta’s side is that Arsenal have a relatively easy run-in compared to City.

Manchester City ramped up the pressure on the North Londoners by beating Burnley 1-0 on Wednesday night.

After the contest, Micah Richards was asked whether he expects Arsenal to be six points clear at the top of the table by the time Pep Guardiola’s side play their next league game.

Mikel Arteta has rested his players by giving them a two-day break, a factor that could help his side return to their best in their upcoming games.

Arsenal’s brave approach against Manchester City must encourage the Emirates faithful as well, even though they lost.

Micah Richards told Sky Sports that Arsenal will end up beating both Newcastle and Fulham: “Oh yeah, for sure.”

“Yeah, I would because they’ve got the loss in the League Cup final, obviously, that was a blow. And the reason why I say that [they will win their next two games] is because we were having a debate on the weekend with Roy [Keane] and he was saying, ‘Well, they lost [against Manchester City]. They put in a good performance but they lost. But you can take something from a performance.”

Richards added: “They’ve been very good in a low block and there was better pressing. Havertz is back, Gyokeres is back, they need to get Saka back, Merino’s a big miss for them, Timber’s a big miss for them but if you look at the game on the whole, Man City were wobbling for a little bit.”

“They need to take their moments when they get them and if they do that, they’ll be six points clear.”

Man City have never lost the Premier League when leading after 33 games

It is during title run-ins where great players turn into legends and the North Londoners will have to do the same until the end of the campaign.

Otherwise, Mikel Arteta’s future will become uncertain if they fail to win the league and go on to make a meal of their hopes of becoming the champions of Europe this season.

Opta have revealed that Manchester City have never lost a Premier League title while being at the summit of the table after 33 games.

However, Arsenal have the chance to put City under the pressure by getting six points in their games against Newcastle and Fulham.

Whether they step up to the plate or drop even more points remains to be seen.
