At A Glance:

  • Arsenal’s first chance at silverware was fluffed in their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.
  • They are still on to win three trophies before the season’s end.
  • William Gallas has predicted how many they will win.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal fluffed their first chance at a trophy on Sunday 22 March as Manchester City ran out 2-0 victors in the Carabao Cup final – but the Gunners are still in a three-pronged pursuit for silverware.

Arteta and his entourage, ahead of their FA Cup tie with Southampton this weekend, will be looking to return to winning ways.

With two weeks to mull over their Wembley defeat, it’s now back to domestic action for the Premier League table-toppers – and that’s start with facing the Saints down south.

Any hopes of an unprecedented quadruple when they fell on City’s sword and former Arsenal defender William Gallas has predicted how many trophies Arteta and his men will win between now and the summer.

William Gallas makes Arsenal Premier League title prediction

Although the Carabao Cup is no longer attainable, Arsenal have the chance to win the Premier League for the first time since the 2003/04 season and are still in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and the Champions League.

Following this weekend’s encounter with Southampton, the Londoners will travel to Portugal to face Sporting CP in the Champions League.

They are in a very strong position to become the champions of Europe for the first time in their history, while reigning triumphant in the FA Cup is also a very big possibility.

Speaking to football odds, per The Metro, Gallas believes that Arsenal will only add the Premier League title to their trophy cabinet.

“Can Arsenal win the treble? I think Arsenal will win one trophy and that’s the Premier League. They still have to be careful but normally they would win the Premier League from this position.

“Champions League? I don’t think so. The FA Cup all depends on the result between Liverpool and Manchester City,” the Frenchman added.

The only way Gallas sees the Gunners earning status as the winners of the FA Cup is if they face Liverpool in the final rather than City.

“If it’s Manchester City in the final, I think Manchester City will win. If it’s Liverpool vs Arsenal in the final, Arsenal will win. It’s a different style and I think Liverpool’s style suits Arsenal better.”

Arsenal’s chance at success looks positive

It’s easy for Arsenal fans to run away with the idea of winning a treble given how well things are currently going in the Premier League: they are nine points clear of second-placed City.

Winning the FA Cup is also not off the cards – but their progression will depend on if their queue for the treatment table can reduce in the coming weeks and days.

Finally getting their hands on the Champions League will be the trickiest task of all because of the level of competition they are bound to face.

Date (Time)Opponent (H/A)Competition

Should they beat Sporting over two legs, they will face one of Barcelona or Atletico Madrid in the semi-final stage. Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are all on the other side of the draw.
