  • Arsenal are already drawing up transfer plans for the summer.

  • Real Madrid are open to selling the player in question for as little as £35 million, according to a report.

Arsenal may be on the brink of winning their first Premier League title in over 20 years, but Andrea Berta and Mikel Arteta aren’t prepared to rest on their laurels, as they’re already drawing up transfer plans ahead of the summer to ensure they sustain their spell at the top.

The Gunners are nine points clear at the summit of the English top flight, while they’re also in the quarter-finals of both the Champions League and the FA Cup. Sunday’s disappointing Carabao Cup final defeat may have ended their hopes of an unprecedented quadruple, but a historic treble remains on the cards.

Despite this, sporting director Berta is keen on making Arteta’s squad even stronger ahead of next season. Julian Alvarez has been identified by Arsenal as a potential marquee addition, and the Argentine might not be the only player currently plying their trade in Madrid who the Gunners look to lure to the Emirates.

Arsenal have ‘enquired’ about Brahim Diaz

Arsenal have struggled against deep, compact defences this season. The Gunners lack the technical, creative players to unlock these low-blocks, and this could well be something they look to address in the transfer market.

According to journalist Ekrem Konur of SportsBoom, Brahim Diaz is likely to be available this summer, and Arsenal are among the list of potential suitors. The Moroccan’s contract expires in 2027, and thus, Real Madrid are open to cashing in over the next six months.

Diaz has started just six La Liga games this term, and is subsequently eager to find a new home where he’ll be guaranteed more regular minutes. The playmaker isn’t satisfied with a sporadic squad role and feels he needs to be more ambitious to ensure he remains a key figure for his national team.

While Los Blancos are huge admirers of Diaz’s talent, they recognise that this summer may be the optimum moment to sanction his sale, and they wouldn’t deny his request to leave if he wishes to do so.

The Spanish giants are understood to be willing to accept an offer in the region of €40-€45 million (£35-£39 million). Proposals below this valuation won’t be considered by the Real Madrid hierarchy.

Konur reports that Tottenham Hotspur, Brentford, Crystal Palace, AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund are all interested, while Arsenal have already made an enquiry into Diaz’s availability.

Should Arsenal move for Brahim Diaz?

While Arsenal could benefit from some of Diaz’s strongest attributes, they should be reluctant to move for the player.

The Gunners already have a plethora of left-footed right-sided attackers at their disposal. The likes of Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke, Martin Odegaard, Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman are already on Arsenal’s books, all vying for two spots. Adding Diaz to this mix would create redundancy and almost certainly leave certain players unhappy.

Arteta should invest in the talented young players he already has available to him, rather than spending a relatively significant fee on a player unproven in English football. While Diaz is undoubtedly talented, his limited physical tools make him an awkward fit for Arsenal’s system and the Premier League.

Add in the significant competition for his signature, and pursuing Diaz doesn’t seem to be worth the hassle.
