While Arsenal are focused on winning the Premier League title and the Champions League this season, attention has already turned to the summer transfer window behind the scenes for Andrea Berta.
The Gunners went big last summer, spending in excess of £250 million on eight new recruits. The likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze and Martin Zubimendi arrived in N5 for significant fees, and this cohort of additions has certainly made a major difference for Mikel Arteta’s team this season.
Inevitably, this influx of new players has left certain members of Arteta’s squad on the periphery, and thus, a few high-profile departures are expected this summer. The likes of Ben White, Gabriel Jesus and Myles Lewis-Skelly are all understood to be among those who could depart N5 within the next six months.
Manchester United want to sign Myles Lewis-Skelly
Arsenal are reportedly ‘willing to sell’ White this summer, with the Gunners already identifying Wesley Franca as a potential replacement. The English right-back isn’t the only defender who could be set to leave the Emirates in the upcoming transfer window.
According to the Mirror, Manchester United are considering an ambitious swoop for left-back Lewis-Skelly. The 19-year-old has been left on the periphery of Arteta’s squad this season, falling behind the likes of Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie in the pecking order.
He hasn’t played a minute of Premier League football since January, and some reports have suggested that he’s frustrated with this lack of minutes. Thomas Tuchel hasn’t named the Hale End graduate in each of his last two England squads, and thus, the youngster may be inclined to push for a move away from North London in an attempt to resurrect his international career.

United have emerged as surprise potential suitors, with the Red Devils keen on finding a long-term replacement for Luke Shaw. The north-west club are concerned about Shaw’s injury record, while Tyrell Malacia is expected to depart.
It’s believed that Lewis-Skelly is among a list of left-back candidates United are monitoring, including Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell, Fulham’s Antonee Robinson and RB Leipzig’s David Raum.
Would Arsenal sell Myles Lewis-Skelly to Man Utd?
Lewis-Skelly may well be tempted by the prospect of signing for United if he is to be offered a prominent role at Old Trafford. The teenager is hungry to re-establish himself after last year’s meteoric rise, and the possibility of plying his trade at a big club may be too difficult to turn down.
That said, whether Arsenal would sanction a potential move to United remains to be seen. Selling a beloved academy product to a direct rival would be a deeply unpopular decision for the Gunners’ hierarchy to make, and the negative optics around it could be enough to prevent the transfer from materialising.
Ultimately, however, Arsenal need to start making more sensible decisions from a selling perspective. Too frequently, the Gunners have held onto players for too long for sentimental reasons, and this has subsequently devalued these assets.
Arsenal have missed out on huge sums of money because of their reticence to sell. It’s very possible that Berta will have a different outlook and will be more than happy to sanction lucrative exits that are unpopular at the time. If United offer big money for Lewis-Skelly, this could be one of those.
