With a few weeks until the transfer window, there is still time for Arsenal to add and indeed, loan players from the squad.
Last season, ‘Loan Watch’ covered the exploits of Arsenal’s loanees as they tried to develop and hopefully become full first-team players at Arsenal. Out of the lot, Jon Toral was arguably the best.
Toral spent the season on loan at Birmingham City and played very impressively, culminating in him gaining the club’s ‘Goal of the Season award’, to add to both the Players’ and Supporters’ ‘Player of the Season’ awards.
The Spaniard has again been sent on loan, although this time to his native Spain, where he will play for Grenada. Staying in Spain, Arsenal’s under-21 captain from last season, Julio Pleguezuelo will play next season at his native Mallorca in the Segunda division.
Moreover, after a strong season in Serie A, Wojciech Szczesny has returned to Roma on a season long loan.
So let’s have a look at how Arsenal’s loanees got on.
Daniel Crowley
Having spent half of last season on loan at Barnsley, Daniel Crowley has joined Oxford United this season.
Crowley has made two appearances in the week. He came on as a 74th in Oxford’s 1-0 win over Birmingham in the League Cup.
He again came on as a substitute against Bristol but could not change the out come, as Oxford lost 2-1.
Wojciech Szczesny
Szczesny has returned to Roma for the forthcoming Serie A season, however the Italian has not started yet.
The League commences this weekend, with Roma facing Udinese.
Jon Toral
Much like Szczesny, Toral’s season has not begun yet, he begins his season against Villareal this weekend.
Stefan O'Connor
The young defender joined Erste Divisie side, MVV Maastricht but is yet to be given a first-team appearance.
Julio Pleguezuelo
Like Toral, the La Liga season has not started. Pleguezuelo will be begin his season against Reus this weekend.
Ryan Huddart
It’s a been a busy week for the young goalkeeper. The young ‘keeper started both Eastleigh’s games in the National League against Tranmere Rovers and Dover Athletic.
Unfortunately, the Huddart could not stop Eastleigh from losing both games, 4-2 and 2-1 respectively.
