Arsenal face major Dixon call as West Ham eye surprise loan

Arsenal could allow Jaden Dixon to join West Ham United on loan as Mikel Arteta considers the next stage of the defender’s development.

The Hammers are exploring a temporary move for the 19-year-old as Nuno Espírito Santo looks to strengthen his defensive options before the Championship campaign begins.

According to Standard Sport reporter Sam Tabuteau, via afcstuff, West Ham are considering an approach for Dixon. No agreement or formal offer has yet been reported.

Dixon only joined Arsenal from Stoke City in February, signing a long-term contract after the Gunners overcame competition for his signature. He has since made his senior debut and established himself within the club’s development setup.

West Ham loan could accelerate Dixon’s Arsenal progress

The England youth international made his first-team appearance as a substitute during Arsenal’s 2-1 FA Cup victory over Mansfield Town in March.

Dixon replaced Riccardo Calafiori at right-back, although he can also operate centrally. Mikel Arteta later praised the defender after he helped Arsenal protect their narrow lead during the closing stages.

Read Arsenal covered Dixon’s promotion into first-team training shortly before his senior breakthrough.

Competition for defensive minutes at the Emirates Stadium remains intense. William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, Piero Hincapié, Cristhian Mosquera, Riccardo Calafiori, Jurrien Timber and Ben White are among Arteta’s senior options.

A season in the Championship could give Dixon the regular senior experience he is unlikely to receive at Arsenal. West Ham’s promotion ambitions would also place him in a demanding environment rather than a conventional development loan.

Arsenal must first receive assurances over his playing time and role. A successful spell in east London could leave Dixon better prepared to challenge for a permanent first-team place next summer.
