Arsenal are close to finalising a £35m deal for Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis as Mikel Arteta prepares to refresh his left side.
The Sun reports that Arsenal are ready to complete an agreement for Tzolis, with the 24-year-old expected to cost around £35m.
The report adds that everything is almost in place, but Arsenal still need to give the final approval before Tzolis travels to London and signs.
Tzolis would arrive as Leandro Trossard’s replacement, with the Belgian set to join Besiktas after the World Cup. A £35m deal would also make Tzolis the most expensive Greek player of all time.
ReadArsenal has already covered why Tzolis could make sense as a left-sided option for Arteta. His output at Club Brugge has made him difficult for Arsenal to ignore.
Arsenal Move To Freshen Left Wing
Tzolis gives Arsenal a different left-sided option.
He can attack from wide, arrive in scoring positions and offer end product from the flank. That matters if Trossard leaves, especially with Arteta trying to protect the squad’s title-winning level.
The former Norwich winger has rebuilt his career since leaving England. His move to Club Brugge helped turn him into a more decisive attacker, and Arsenal now appear ready to bring him back to the Premier League.
The deal will not end Arsenal’s interest in Morgan Rogers. The Sun reports that Rogers remains a separate target, even with Aston Villa demanding a huge fee.
That distinction is important. Tzolis looks like the Trossard replacement. Rogers would be the bigger attacking statement.
For Arsenal, this is a sensible move if the final approval comes. Arteta needs depth, output and freshness on the left. Tzolis would give him all three at a fee below the elite market.
