Arsenal make move for ‘sublime’ attacker after 2026 FIFA World Cup elimination

Arsenal are likely to add an attacker or two to their squad this summer as they aim to compete on all fronts once again next season.

According to Football London, the Gunners have already held talks with Kerim Alajbegovic, who is coming on the back of a breakthrough season with Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been linked with a handful of other attackers as well, with interest in the likes of Bradley Barcola and Morgan Rogers well documented.

However, if reports from England are to be believed, Alajbegovic could be their man, especially after Bosnia’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Alajbegovic was sold by Bayer Leverkusen last year but the Bundesliga side wasted no time in buying him back after his exploits in Austria.

And the 2026 FIFA World Cup showed why they acted quickly as the 18-year-old was a key player for Bosnia before they were eliminated from the competition by the USA last night.

According to the aforementioned report, Arsenal have already held talks with his representatives as they decide whether or not to make an official approach.

The report also mentions interest in Christian Tzolis, Barcola and Rogers, among others, so Andrea Berta appears to be working on multiple deals at the same time.

Alajbegovic described as a ‘sublime’ player

The Bosnian wonderkid has already made a massive impression for club and country despite being just 18, which has led to interest from Arsenal.

The Bundesliga’s official website described him as a ‘sublime’ player earlier this year as they singled him out as a talent to keep an eye out for.

They wrote on their website,” The Cologne-born forward began his footballing journey in the Billy Goats’ academy, before joining rivals Leverkusen in 2021. He spent four years in the Werkself’s ranks, before Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg took a chance on him in the summer of 2025.

“He quickly became a key player for his new side, making 44 appearances for them in 2025/26, his first season in professional football.

“He scored 13 goals and registered four assists to be named the Austrian Bundesliga’s Player of the Season. It was form which also earned him a call-up to the Bosnia and Herzegovina senior national team in September 2025. He’s since made 13 appearances for Bosnia, and recently scored in their 3-1 win against Qatar in their Group B fixture at the FIFA World Cup 2026, which earned him Player of the Match plaudits and helped Bosnia book their place in the next stage of the tournament.

“Alajbegović’s sublime 2026/26 campaign put clubs across Europe on alert but Leverkusen were quickest to act, activating their buy-back clause and securing him on a five-year contract.”
