Arsenal fought until the very end to clinch a 1-0 win against Burnley at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night.

As a result, the North Londoners have every reason to be over the moon about their latest victory.
Kai Havertz’s goal against Burnley could be remembered by Arsenal fans for years as it has taken the club one step away from winning the league but Jamie Carragher assessed the result from Manchester City’s perspective.

Jamie Carragher reveals why Man City will take Arsenal beating Burnley
As things stand, Arsenal have a five-point lead over City, albeit having played one more game than their title rivals. Both sides are tied on goal difference (+43).
Burnley have troubled ‘Big Six’ teams in 2026 but Mikel Arteta’s side managed to get over the line against Michael Jackson and Co.
However, in Jamie Carragher’s eyes, Manchester City will take the result for two reasons:
- Would have expected Arsenal to demolish Burnley.
- Arsenal could lose the title on goal difference as Manchester City still have two games left.
Carragher said on Sky Sports: “Man City would’ve taken this before the game. They’d love Burnley to have got a result, but what were the chances of that? You’d be expecting four or five goals, and if you’re Man City and you could be ahead on goal difference if Palace get a draw and we win our two games…
“Hopefully, it’ll go to the last day, but if it does, that’ll be a really long week for Arsenal fans!”
Phil Foden has already sent a message ahead of Crystal Palace vs Arsenal
The title is in Arsenal’s hands and despite Jamie Carragher’s claim, Manchester City would need to beat both AFC Bournemouth and Aston Villa while hoping Crystal Palace can do them a favour on Sunday.
As a result, the ideal scenario for City would have been that Burnley took points away from the league leaders. Interestingly, Phil Foden suggested Arsenal would beat Burnley and if they did drop points, it would be to Palace.
Foden said: “We have to keep pushing and keep them on their toes. Lots of things can happen on the final day, I’ve experienced it many times when the game doesn’t go your way. We have our part to play.”
