At a Glance:
- David Raya could surpass Petr Cech’s record for Chelsea.
- Cech set it during Chelsea’s legendary 2004/2005 season.
- The Arsenal goalkeeper could achieve incredible feat.
Regardless of whether Arsenal end up winning silverware this season or not, David Raya has had a truly exceptional season.
Raya has arguably been Arsenal’s best player this campaign, as was proven when he made a vital save to keep the scoreline tied at 0-0 when Mateus Fernandes was through on goal. The Gunners went on to win 1-0 and if they win the Premier League, the Spaniard’s save will be remembered by fans for years on end.
The former Brentford goalkeeper has cemented his status as an elite shotstopper while demonstrating his comfortability in possession once again this term.
Raya is one of Arsenal’s greatest-ever goalkeepers and this season, he could be set to surpass another titan in between the sticks.
David Raya could surpass Petr Cech’s clean sheet record for Chelsea in 2005
According to Opta Analyst, Raya has kept as many as 27 clean sheets for Mikel Arteta’s side in all competitions this season.

The tally has only been bettered by Ederson Moraes (28, 2018/19 season), Petr Cech (28, 2004/2005 season), Joe Hart (29, 2010/11 season), Pepe Reina (30, 2005/2006 season) and Edwin van der Sar (32, 2008/2009 season).
Raya’s outstanding time at Arsenal could be further improved if he beats Cech’s tally of 28 in particular, a feat he could match if the North Londoners keep two clean sheets in their next two league games against Burnley and Crystal Palace.
Considering the retired goalkeeper was a part of a Chelsea back five that famously conceded a record 15 goals in the 2004/2005 season, the 30-year-old could get his hands on a truly remarkable feat.
Oliver Glasner could help David Raya beat Petr Cech feat
If Raya manages to keep a clean sheet against Burnley, it is highly possible that he could do the same against Crystal Palace as Oliver Glasner intends to rotate his side against Arsenal.
Glasner’s decision stems from the fact that Palace will face Raya Vallecano in the Europa Conference League final three days after the final game of the 2025/2026 Premier League season.
The last time Arsenal played against Crystal Palace in the league, they managed to win 1-0.

Raya will have to ensure Arsenal do not concede a goal in either of his side’s next two league games at least.
Otherwise, the goalkeeper will have the tall task of keeping Paris Saint-Germain’s electric attack completely quiet in the Champions League final.
