Arsenal will face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final in Budapest at the end of the month, in what could end up becoming the club’s first major European title ever.

The Gunners battled past Bayer Leverkusen, Sporting, and Atletico Madrid on their path to the final of the competition, with Arsenal also in the running to win the Premier League title, too.

While there is no clear favourite on who will become European champions this season, it seems as if one huge sporting name has placed his bets ahead of the game that will take place in only a few weeks.

Victor Wembanyama says that Paris Saint-Germain will beat Arsenal

Victor Wembanyama is a huge name in the world of basketball, with the French NBA player, at only 22 years of age, already being one of the sport’s biggest names.

Drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in 2023, Wembanyama won the Rookie of the Year award upon entering the league and has gone on to become a two-time NBA all-star since.

In an interview with Prime, the Frenchman was asked who out of the two teams would come away as champions, to which he responded confidently while laughing.

“Come on, PSG, of course! At least PSG are going to make it somewhat fun, because Arsenal ain’t,” said Wembanyama.

Arsenal fans are not particularly pleased with Wembanyama’s cockiness

If you are to look at the situation level-headedly, as an Arsenal fan, it can be assumed that Wembanyama is biased towards the club of his country, France, ahead of a team that is viewed by many as a side that does not play the most attractive football at times.

Regardless, the sentiment in the comments was that the youngster was incorrect, with one commenter stating that “I didn’t think they [looked] good last game against Bayern, where they [decided to] sit deep and counter.”

Some were less kind with their criticism of the San Antonio Spurs player, implying that he was not thinking straight and had “hit his head a bit too hard.”

Another admitted that this had turned the NBA star into someone he likes less, having now heard this opinion, hoping that Wembanyama’s team, the San Antonio Spurs, do not progress in the NBA playoffs.

Arsenal fans should not take this statement to heart

Although celebrities seem to have a large voice in terms of anything they say getting amplified due to popularity, it is not like Victor Wembanyama’s opinion is reflective of the wider sporting community.

You can easily make an argument that it is unfair to say Arsenal are not a ‘fun’ team to watch, given that they stormed to a Champions League league phase victory, picking up eight wins from eight while scoring 23 goals in the process, the most out of any team by that point.
