  • Gyokeres’ form has been much better for Arsenal recently
  • Cites one reason for renewed confidence in trophy run-in
  • Gyokeres also has benefitted from the return of Bukayo Saka.

Viktor Gyokeres has arguably been the key man for Arsenal in recent weeks, scoring key goals against Atletico Madrid and Fulham as Arsenal’s season comes to a close.

With the Gunners still in contention to win both the Premier League and the Champions League, having an attacker performing at a high level is vital to ensuring the best chance at lifting trophies.

Bukayo Saka’s return and subsequent starring performance against Fulham is an optimistic sign for Mikel Arteta and the rest of the team in terms of winning the Premier League title race, but their Champions League journey hinges on coming out victorious against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Viktor Gyokeres says qualifying for the World Cup with Sweden has given him some extra motivation

Gyokeres spoke on how his confidence has come in key in a press conference held on the day before his team face Atletico, and how playing a key role in the Swedish national team has helped him out in terms of performing at club level.

“To achieve [World Cup qualification] with your country’s national team, and to contribute when you play for your national team, I think that was [an] amazing and wonderful thing. This is something great, and it gives me a lot of confidence [at both club and country level].”

While Sweden finished bottom of their World Cup qualifcation group, but thanks to their success in the 2024-25 Nations League, were able to get through to the 2026 World Cup playoffs.

In that deciding match between Sweden and Polsnd, where the winner would get a spot in the USA this summer, Sweden would come out victorious, in a 3-2 scoreline that saw Gyokeres score the deciding goal.

Gyokeres’ eight games for Arsenal since that playoff game in late March have produced five goals, and whether he can score more before the end of the year could be the decider on if Arsenal end up trophyless or not.

The return of another Arsenal talisman may be beneficial to the Swede, too…

Viktor Gyokeres says the return of Bukayo Saka is ‘fantastic’ for both Arsenal and himself

On Bukayo Saka, who set up one of Gyokeres’ goals and scored one himself against Fulham, the Swede was very happy to see his return to the right wing.

“The understanding with Saka? I think it’s a very good relationship on Saturday. When he’s at this level and delivers the performance we’re used to from him, it’s of course fantastic for me and all the other players to have him on the field with us,” Gyokeres said.

matchday.
