Jamie Carragher opposed Atletico Madrid being awarded a penalty against Arsenal after the ball struck Ben White’s hand in the lead-up to Julian Alvarez’s spot-kick
The England international was unfortunate as he was trying to stop Marcos Llorento’s volley from bypassing him but in turn conceded a penalty.
White was solid against Atletico Madrid but ultimately, the highlight of the defender’s night will be that he was at the front and centre of the moment that meant the Gunners drew the game.
Arsenal were leading 1-0 before the incident, thanks to Viktor Gyokeres opening the scoring from 12 yards out in the Spanish capital.
Jamie Carragher upset about Ben White handball decision in Atletico Madrid vs Arsenal
Jamie Carragher felt White and Arsenal were unfortunate against Atletico Madrid, much like Bayern Munich against Paris Saint-Germain when they gave the visitors a penalty.
However, the ball clearly struck Alphonso Davies’ body before his hand but the referee stuck to his guns.
Jamie Carragher took to X to air out his grievances: “The Champions League is the best football by a mile, but these penalty decisions for handball really are a stain on the competition.”
“Last night’s was worse but that should not be a penalty against White.”

How Mikel Arteta should react to Ben White handball decision
Ultimately, much like Jamie Carragher, Mikel Arteta has the right to have his say on whether Arsenal were on the wrong end of the stick against Atletico Madrid.
However, having managed several games in the Champions League during his time in North London, the Spaniard will be aware that the competition has a habit of springing such surprises.
Arsenal will be the happier side out of the two as they managed to earn a draw at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium.
Mikel Arteta must walk into the dressing room and tell his players to stay positive as they have a chance of reaching the Champions League final next week.
