Emmanuel Petit claimed Arsenal should sack Mikel Arteta and appoint a new manager if they fail to win a single trophy this season.

Arsene Wenger’s Premier League title prediction involved his former club going all the way but the mood surrounding the Emirates Stadium is not as optimistic as the legendary manager currently.

Manchester City’s statement 2-1 victory over Arsenal meant the Gunners left three questions unanswered.

  • Is Arsenal’s season collapsing?
  • Do Arsenal have the minerals to win the Premier League title?
  • Why have Arsenal fail to win another big game?

With Newcastle United and Atletico Madrid awaiting Mikel Arteta’s side in their two upcoming fixtures, it will be clearer to the masses if they can get over the line in the league as well as in Europe.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Emmanuel Petit revealed that he would be frustrated if Arteta goes trophyless.

Petit claimed he would have begin to question his future at Arsenal if Mikel Arteta cannot lead Arsenal to silverware this season.

“I will answer that question as a former player. I will be so annoyed. I will think to myself, ‘Is it time for me to go somewhere else, because we’ve been playing and fighting for the title [for years now].’ And for me, this season especially, you have no excuse!”

“You’ll lose it.”

When Danny Murphy claimed some Arsenal supporters would be onboard with Mikel Arteta’s departure if he does win a trophy this season, Emmanuel Petit was asked his thoughts and he replied: “Probably, yeah.”

Arteta may have tweak his tactics to galvanise this Arsenal side, with fans even being frustrated to the point that they booed the hosts when they lost 2-1 to AFC Bournemouth recently.

Arsenal’s stance on sacking Mikel Arteta

Considering the Spaniard has had a transformative impact since being appointed as Arsenal boss, it would be a difficult decision for the club to let him go anytime soon.

However, Mikel Arteta could be sacked by Arsenal if he does not win a trophy this campaign.

Furthermore, it has been claimed that Cesc Fabregas has been identified as a potential successor to his countryman if the North Londoners sack their current boss.
