At a Glance:

  • Wayne Rooney has predicted whether Manchester City or Arsenal will win the Premier League title.
  • Manchester City and Arsenal face off on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium.
  • The reverse fixture in the Premier League ended 1-1.

Only time will tell whether the 2025/2026 Premier League title is ultimately decided based on the result of Sunday’s contest between Manchester City and Arsenal.

Both Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta will likely be instructing their players to go for the jugular at the Etihad Stadium and lay a marker down in the title race.

At the end of day, however, what matters most is which team manages to remain the most consistent until the end of the season.

Paul Scholes backed Manchester City to beat Arsenal and ultimately, the viewing public will be hoping to witness one of the sides come out on top and eventually clinch the league title.

The Arsenal players must embrace facing City and finally cement the power shift between the two sides, considering the Sky Blues have beaten them to two league titles since Mikel Arteta’s time in charge.

It is important to remember that even a result would favour the visitors at the Etihad Stadium as they still have a six-point lead at the top of the table, albeit having played one more game than Pep Guardiola’s men.

Speaking to Amazon Prime Video Sport, Wayne Rooney predicted Arsenal to win the Premier League over Manchester City, saying: “It’s a massive game, obviously for both clubs. I still think Arsenal will win it.”

“I think City obviously have to be perfect with all the results. Arsenal can afford to get a draw in that game as well. But I still think Arsenal will just nick it.”

However, City’s dominant 2-0 victory against the North Londoners in the recent Carabao Cup final is an indicator of the fact that when push comes to shove, Sunday’s hosts tend to deliver.
