Sporting CP vs Arsenal: TV channel, kick-off time & how to watch

Share

Arsenal visit Sporting CP on Tuesday evening in the Champions League quarter-final, with Mikel Arteta’s side looking to progress into the semi-final stage for the second consecutive season and keep their hopes of a double alive.

The Gunners were beaten by a spirited Southampton team in the FA Cup on Saturday evening, with goals from Ross Stewart and Shea Charles cancelling out Viktor Gyokeres’ equaliser. The result has prompted widespread criticism for Arteta’s outfit, and the pressure is now on them to respond to this disappointment by emerging from Lisbon victorious.

Amidst the pain of exiting another cup competition, Arteta will have been seriously concerned by his team’s display at St. Mary’s. Not only did they struggle to maintain their first half dominance in the second half, they also looked exceptionally vulnerable to long balls and direct play from Southampton.

Sporting were embroiled in their own chaotic affair over the weekend, beating Santa Clara 4-2 in a huge game in their own title race. An 89th-minute strike from Goncalo Paciencia made it 3-2, and the Lisbon side then had to rely on a late breakway goal from Rafael Nel to seal all three points.

By the way in which they dismantled Bodo/Glimt in the second leg of the last round, it’s clear that Sporting will present Arsenal with a stern test. Arteta may be without Gabriel Magalhaes for this trip, while several more are doubts, meaning the Spaniard has a tough task on his hands heading to the Portuguese capital.
