Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are looking to end their silverware drought by the time of end of 2025/26 campaign – and teenage sensation Max Dowman could be a real difference-maker for the Spaniard.

The 16-year-old, born and raised in Chelmsford, became the youngest-ever goalscorer in Premier League history when he netted against Everton earlier this month.

Arsenal’s Hale Ender has taken the world by storm with his brilliance and there are even many figures that think he should travel with England to the 2026 World Cup.

Irrespective of whether Thomas Tuchel hands him a spot on the plane this summer, there are others of an opposing opinion. In fact, a football presenter has even told him to leave north London.

Max Dowman urged to leave Arsenal at earliest opportunity

Born in 2009, Dowman has now played seven times for the senior Arsenal side. He’s scored just once – that goal against Everton! – but much of his best work is done tangibly.

Adrian Durham, a notable presenter for talkSPORT, believes the youngster should look at the career of Myles Lewis-Skelly as a reminder of what could happen to him.

“Max Dowman needs to leave Arsenal as soon as possible. Dowman has seen Myles Lewis-Skelly’s career derailed by Mikel Arteta. He’s not even third choice left-back now – [Piero] Hincapie and [Riccardo] Calafiori ahead of him in a Wembley final,” he said.

“He was a midfielder in the youth team and got to a Youth Cup final in midfield,” he said when referencing Lewis-Skelly’s lack of minutes.

“Even with [Martin] Zubimendi looking like a League One player, [Declan] Rice’s numbers are shocking and [Mikel] Merino injured. Lewis-Skelly isn’t going to get a look in there, he’s third choice left-back. He’s surely on his way.”

Durham claims Arteta is to blame

“He’s [Dowman] also seen another youth team product Ethan Nwaneri used to boost Arteta’s ego – ‘look at me, I play young players’ – and yet in their title season he’s sent to Marseille with no recall clause which is total disrespect,” Durham continued.

It’s no secret that Ethan Nwaneri’s loan spell in France has not gone to plan with him yet to complete a full 90 minutes.

“So Max Dowman needs to take a look at these things and realise that he’s just another tick in Mikel Arteta’s box.

“It’s all about Arteta, it’s not about Dowman and if he stays there, Arteta will keep signing right wingers for money until Max Dowman realises Arteta is just not that into him. That’s the reality of it.”

He then claimed that both Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke are ahead of the teenager on the right-hand side before insisting that he should seek out a move to one of Spain’s top sides.

“Max Dowman, don’t follow their path. Forget who your family supports, that’s irrelevant now. Think about your career, go find a stage your talents deserve.

“Barcelona, Real Madrid, wherever it is. Go find a coach who will get the very best of you and bring you success in your career. You deserve better than Arsenal,” Durham concluded.
